About her future (2007): "I'm just 17. I would like to live in France for a while, to improve my French and spend at least a couple of years travelling around the world. Then, when I'm about 19, I'll have to think seriously about my future: the University - I would like to study Philosophy or Literature - and a home."

Early review of Emma’s performance in OotP // 9 April 2007

Hello Emma fans,

Thanks to the amazing Claire for reminding us that we never posted the excellent (but unfortunately anonymous) review that was given of Emma’s performance after an early screening of OotP 😉

“Emma is a consummate professional which is to say that she’s picking up all the good acting habits from the fabulous talent and hundreds of years of combined experience from the actors on set. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Emma break out and become a real movie star in the future. She’s got the chops and you don’t just develop that over time. Don’t be surprised to see her at the Academy Awards some day. When she’s done with the Potter series, you’ll be amazed at what she is capable of. I really mean this.”

(When Emma gets an Oscar, I’ll personally be smirking and telling everyone: “Told you so yeaaaaaars ago 😛 )

Anyway, you can read the full article here at The Leaky Cauldron (beware: lots of spoilers!) 🙂

Have a nice day!

  3. Chris says:

I heard the scene where she gets hit with a curse has been cut. I really wanted to see that. 🙁 Thanks for the review. Always knew Emma was good! 🙂

  4. annemarie says:

When is the gallery online ??!!

  5. Nav says:

theres no doubt that she has been the most consistent performer throughout the films, i hope she does get her just rewards some day. also, replying to Chris's post, – i also find that annoying about the films, becuase even on the dvds they dont show deleted scenes or even outtakes.

  6. Add says:

Maybe she's good Hermione in HP films, but she isn't really big stars like for example Sandra Bullock or Angelina Jolie.

  7. Sere says:

well, that's a personal point of view, we don't know who said that.

  8. VOTE FOR EMMA says:

@ Add – of course she isn't, she's HALF THEIR AGE. If she continues her career and gets some good roles, by the time she's their age she may well be as big a star as them. Give her a chance to grow up first. Blimey!

  9. Janny says:

I LOVE HER!! SHE WILL!! 😛

  10. Michelle says:

Sorry but.. isn't that old? I've read that review like.. a month ago or even longer.

  11. Chris says:

Michelle: Yes it is old, but to be fair, Neve did say they forgot to post it when it came out. Perhaps not everyone had seen it. 😉

  12. Neve says:

To Michelle: yes, this is old news but EW.net was down when this review was released, which is why we never posted it on the site… until today 😛

  13. Hiltje says:

I love spoilers ^^ thank you EW.net for this review !!!

  14. blue says:

i opened that site whice is about private pics of hp stars & i don't think they're feked as most say or r they?? 😕

  15. Cat says:

I'm really sorry, but I definitely don't agree with the anonymous review. Emma's acting skills have deflated as every new HP movie has come out, and the road to the oscars is billions miles away from Emma and as far as I'm concerned, even at Angelina Jolie's age, Emma won't be able to match Jolie's brilliant performance and acting skills. AND, I'll be laughing my ass off is she ever does win an oscar, god, that'll be the day. 😆

  16. Chris says:

Cat: not much of an Emma fan are you? Making derogatory remarks about her acting. Who knows, she might make you happy, and quit acting before she reaches AJ's age. 😉

  17. Julia_2 says:

I also have to diagree with the review… I did find Emma's acting okay in POA, but you could definately see that she was experimenting, or that Cuaron was giving them more freedom. When I heared that I was like, come on, she was 13 when they shot the film, you can't go and treat her like an adult. She may be mature, but she's not mature yet, if you know what I mean. And then, in GOF, I was sometimes annoyed by her acting. I liked the Yul Ball, but the whole crying thing was way too much. And the scene in the tent was okay too, before the dragons, but the rest..sorry, no. I have to disagree with Mike Newall's description of a good actor/actrice. I'm really keeping my thumbs up for OOTP, for I still like Emma and HP, but for now, I have to disagree with the review.

  18. emmafan4life says:

kool review!! emma wil SO be @ the academy awards one year, winning like, best actress EVER!!!! i don't know if i want to read the rest of the review if there's spoilers, it'll ruin the surprise for me… but its so tempting 😛

  19. prince andrew says:

well, if she wants to go on with the movies, I bet she will do great in them, good job Emma Watson.(I haven't read the article). 🙂 🙂

  23. somea peitn says:

Why do you guys care some much about the gallery, just go to google or soemtthing and time Emma Watson!! GOSH! 😡

  24. A.v says:

I am 100% positve that if Emma wants, she would get the all time, big hollywood awards!

  25. Andrea says:

😡 what do ythey mean by "…Emma break out and become a real movie star in the future." Wut the?? so what is she called now? a non-real movie star?

  26. Bianca says:

She is a movie star! Hey to staff i went to contact us but it only had stuff for fans i got 1 question and 1 comment. Do you own [ link deleted ] also there was this disrespectful photo of Emma Watson on Photobucket! It’s not her with a bottle or with friends its far much worse! go to [ link deleted ] i didn’t look at it i was flipping through the photos! 😥 😥 😥 😥

  27. dook says:

Bianca, no, that site you mentioned is not ours. If the photo you saw was worse than Emma with her friends, it was a fake. Just ignore it. There are sick people out there. The first email listed on the Contact Us page, emmawatson.source@gmail.com is the one to use for questions and comments that you feel don’t belong here.

  28. Nish says:

When the HELL will the gallery be working again?

  29. Jaana says:

Well of course we're gonna see Emma at the Academy Awards some day. I mean, it's obvious, isn't it? Someone as talented as her is bound to win an Oscar at some point, if she keeps on acting. 🙂 I'm just really, really happy that other people are beginning to realize that as well. Emma really deserves all the praise she gets. ^^

  30. EMMA W RULZ says:

Emmas bday is not far away!!!!!! 🙂 😆

  31. ghina says:

yeah i wouldn't be shocked to know that she won an Osacr, i'de be HAPPY shocked 😆 😆 😆 😛 i can see her on that stage crying and saying :"I want to thank Ghina for supporting me in all my work and because she said that she would be HAPPY shocked for me" 😛 😛 😛 hehehehehehe i wish she would say that one day hehehe:P well happy easter everybody ghina xoxo

  32. Bianca says:

    Thanks dook 🙁

  33. Alex says:

This is an Emma Watson FANsite. So if you've got a problem with her, take it to the IMDB forums. Keep your anti-Emma rhetoric off this site.

  34. luke says:

Absolutely beautiful picture of the day, Emma looks amazing.

  35. Krum says:

To those of you who criticize Emma for "over-acting" on GoF…you have to realize that different directors demand different portrayals of her character. For example, Mike Newell may see Hermione in a completely different way that Alfonso Cuaron or Chris Columbus sees her. Emma, as an actress, has to adapt to each director's style on every film which is why there are so many different opinions of how her acting is in each one…I personally felt her portrayal of Hermione in GoF was spot on, and not at all annoying. Hermione is portrayed in the books as an over-emotional, hormonal spazz, and that's exactly how Emma came off in the movie. The bottom line is that her ability to adapt to each director in the way he wants Hermione portrayed, MAKES her a good actress. It's that kind of versatility that other actors and reviewers see as talent, not the fact that she "moves her eyebrows too much" or "over-reacts in certain scenes". She's able to adapt, she takes direction well, and she nails her lines. All that adds up to being a really good actress, and with time she will get even better. If she stays with it, she will eventually be among the elite actresses of her time. Oh, and um…I hate to burst your bubble if you happen to be an Angelina Jolie fan, but she couldn't act her way out of a wet paper bag. YUCK!!!

  36. Saima says:

Krum; Your definitely an obsessive Emma fan, who no matter how bad the acting reaches will still praise and worship the 'actress'. Your perception of good acting is very distorted if you think that AJ can't act, and that Emma can in fact act out of a paper bag, I mean seriously, the girl gets more publicity for her looks and her escapades outside of HP, then she does for her apparent 'acting' skills. It's amazing how your defending Emma by referring to her having to adapt to different styles of all the different directors, I mean, it's as if she's the only character that's playing in the HP movies. Dan and Rupert have improved immensely over the past couple of years and they've expanded their acting skills by using the different directing styles of all the directors and have tried to adapt those styles on screen and show everyone that they can in fact act, which, I'm NOT sorry to say, is something Emma HASN'T been able to do. Her portrayel of Hermione in GOF has by far been the WORST and what's really sad, is that she actually thinks that she's done justice to Hermione's character, and so do peope like you. Trully SAD. If your offended, I really don't care, as just like you've got your own positive opinion of Emma, I have my own critical and very negative opinion of Emma's acting. 🙂

  37. Krum says:

Hey, thanks! By the way, does Saima mean "jealous much" or "green with envy" in some other language, lol??? 😛

  38. DOB says:

Really girl, if you don't like Emma's acting get out of here and go find an Angelina Joilie site to spout your drivel.

  39. Alex says:

Agree, Agree, Agree, TOTALLY agree with Krum. You hit the nail on the head mate, great analysis. Everyone has a different opinion about the way Emma portrays Hermione in each different movie, and that's because she's "adapting" (as you put it) to the way each director sees Hermione. I thoroughly enjoyed her in GoF too, I don't know why anybody wouldn't have.

  40. tato says:

LMAO!!!! Someone actually said Emma gets more publicity for her looks and off-screen antics than Angelina Jolie??? GIVE ME A BREAK!!! I don't see Emma in every tabloid magazine every freakin' day, running around the world doing this, that, and God only knows what else with Brad Pitt at her side. Nor do I see Emma posing half-naked and provocatively on the covers of adult magazines. To make a comparison like that is not only laughable and WAY off the mark, but very sad.

  41. Ahlam says:

    woow amazing review….and cool 2 see emma in Academy Awadrs….wow 🙂 😉

  42. Anna says:

I admire Emma for wanting to go to university (not all actors do that) and I think she's relatively good-looking. But I don't think she'll ever get Oscar recognition. at least not yet. Frankly, I've never believed her portrayal of Hermione was ever the best, her acting skills have not gotten any better (in GoF she was one of the worst cast members, along with Michael Gambon). But if she won a Oscar, I'd have to admit I'd be truly shocked and surprised. I like Emma as a person but as an actress, she still has a long way to go. Please, don't slam me just because I don't have a positive view on Emma's performances in the HP films, I am just giving my opinion.

  43. Sam says:

Anna; I'm really glad that you mentioned the whole thing about slammming someone for having a somewhat negative opinion about Emma and your overall opinion is very true. We're all entitled to our own personal opinions, but, some people, coughabove commentscough, really find it difficult to find them not offensive and have to bash anyone who expresses their negative perception of Emma's acting. Seriously, GROW UP. 😡

  44. Krum says:

Seriously, anyone who does not think Emma Watson is a good actress with LOADS of potential to become one of the best HAS NO IDEA WHAT GOOD ACTING IS!!! I have to laugh…Emma and Michael Gambon were two of "the worst actors in GoF"??? You have no comprehension about what good acting is…just listen to the critics and other actors! Emma is regarded as not only the best actor in the HP cast, but the one with the most potential to have a long and successful career. I mean seriously, what movies are you guys watching??? Do you even know who Emma Watson is?

  45. Kat xx says:

i think emma is pretty enough and a good enough actress to develop her acting skills further – she was very lucky to ge the role as hermione and im sure shell have a great carrer – dont hate peeps – emma rocks! xx

  46. Krum says:

And I'm not "slamming" anyone for having a negative opinion, I'm simply pointing out facts based on what other actors and people in the movie industry (who are much more qualified to judge people on acting skills than we are) have said about Emma. If it weren't true, then why would they say anything at all? You are entitled to your opinion of course, but you're certainly not going to get any support from people on this site or people who truly know what defines "good acting".

  47. Sam says:

Krum; SHUT UP! People have very different perceptions about different actors and this whole talk of your's about what entitles as 'good acting' and Emma being the best of everyone from the HP cast has got to be the dumbest B******* I've heard since the crap they wrote about her on MSN. This whole defending Emma thing isn't going going to make her a better or worse actor, so please just let everyone have a say about what they think and stop bashing their comments. Not everyone is as obsessive or obnoxious as you are about this whole thing. Seriously! 😡

  48. blo says:

Basically I agree with Krum. But we have to remember that not all people are going to understand multi layered acting, just like some people simple don't get overall complexity of human emotions. Such people are going to prefer simplistic acting (when actor is conveying only one dominant emotion/attitude/function in the scene) over complex one. Its just the way it is, and mind that they are part of movie audience as well and always has been. Additional problem with movies like HP is – that they are generally simple, seen predominantly as mass entertainment. So many expect from actors participating in such productions just simple, schematic performances – exactly in the same fashion as they expect multi dimensional acting in psychological dramas. Actor who is trying to cross the boundaries (like in this case Emma) is risking of being misunderstood by significant portion of the audience. Don't forget that many HP fans honestly believe that all Hermione is just annoying know it all and they literally don't want to see anything more in this character.
