Bad news, everyone. 🙁 According to MuggleNet, the Half-Blood Prince film has been pushed back to release on July 17, 2009 instead of this November. A Warner Brothers press release:
In making the announcement, Mr. Horn stated, “Our reasons for shifting ‘Half-Blood Prince’ to summer are twofold: we know the summer season is an ideal window for a family tent pole release, as proven by the success of our last Harry Potter film, which is the second-highest grossing film in the franchise, behind only the first installment. Additionally, like every other studio, we are still feeling the repercussions of the writers’ strike, which impacted the readiness of scripts for other films

Agh, this is infuriating! 😡 We're all dying to see HBP and now they decide to change the release date?!?!?! What the funk?? Honestly! This is absolutely ridiculous. I'm so angry right now that I could scream! There are no other movies coming out this year that I'd want to see. Twilight is one, but seeing as the release date of that too is due sometime next year here in Finland…. And I have no idea when the Tale of Desperaux will be released here. I'm so disappointed with WB right now… Am I the only who thinks that this decision of theirs makes no sense?? I mean, the Harry Potter franchise is the most popular movie franchise out there at the moment and it's guaranteed to get massive audiences no matter what time of year it's released! So why on earth do they want to push the realease date as far back as July?!?!? Waaaah, I'm very upset now. 🙁 This isn't fair. Oh my god. SO depressed. HP has such a big fan base, and yes – they want more viewers and that's what they will get. But they are just letting all the TRUE HP fans down. The fans that wait hours in the premiere, the fans that check the news everyday. The fans that count the hours until it comes out! They will gain more people in July because the ones who will go in July will be the people who could care less for the movie but go because they wanna 'check it out'. Great.
OMG!!!! this makes no sense. the movie is already done, so it will definitly be leaked on the internet between now and july! thats a year! they will loose money bc of that. and if its released in july, it prob will stay in theaters for a few months, so the deathly Hollows would go down in viewers probably because ppl havent seen the 6th one. plus, a lot of ppl wait to see the movie on DVD, the movie prob wont be out on DVD b4 the 7th! this is such a stupid movie. im not waiting to see it in thethers, itll prob be on the internet in a matter of months, considering its completed and in post production
Woah, that was unexpected. I haven't seen many movies change their release date and this might sound mean but it's what I feel: I think in a way WB is feeling the pressure that Twilight might kick them off the box-office. You have to be reminded WB hasn't released much promotion for HBP – I know I might be wrong but perhaps, and only perhaps and trust me when I say that I don't say this to show any disrespect towards any of the both movies for I love both and I hope they do well, but it's just a feeling I have… Anyhow, I hope to see HP soon!!!

Yeah I made plans to see this as well. Forget that vacation… I am really upset about it. I was really excited, like everyone else, about the movie only being 3 months away.
It is because of Twilight and they know Twilight has the potential to beat them at the box office, especially since WB has spent almost no money on promoting HBP. It is about the $$$$, if they don't move the film they won't make the money the want.
^ Again, I highly doubt Warner Brothers would push HBP back ELEVEN MONTHS, because thier scared of Twilight. p.s: I swear, if I hear anymore about this Twilight movie, i'm going to rip my hair out, and start a boycott against it. 😉
