Emma Watson talks about her Fair Trade range for People Tree, her schooling, and a possible new role in a new article for the Telegraph. There are also three new pictures from the People Tree shoot.
“There’s much more awareness among my generation. The planet is at risk and I wanted to do so something,” says Emma. “Then, I met Safia about 18 months ago, and we started talking about me doing a collection for People Tree. The timing was right. It’s hard to know what is good and what is bad on the high street and equally hard to find fashionable or youthful ethical clothing. I don’t want to wear something on my body that hurts the environment or the people in it. I wanted to put together a collection I could be proud of in terms of both ethics and design. It shocks me that even today only one per cent of cotton produced in the world is Fair Trade and organic.”
“I’ve not had any fashion training, but I am an artist. I paint, I draw and I had a great team to work with. I designed the collection for myself and my friends; they’re the sort of thing we wear – the difference being they’re ecologically sound. I became completely engrossed. I tried on the clothes, I worked on the catalogue and my friends and I were models. We all worked for free.”
Emma mentions the possibility of a second collection for People Tree, “If people like it and it sells, I’m committed.”
She also talks about school, and a possible new acting role. She is currently studying art, painting and drawing, history, English, poetry, and starting lessons in contemporary ballet in the summer. “I’m going to be there for four years but I’m not planning to disappear. I’m auditioning for a play, Chekhov’s Three Sisters, and I’m still reading scripts. Where I’ll be in ten years’ time, I really have no idea. I am on the brink of making some big decisions.”
New information from People Tree
A lot of people have asked where they can buy Emma’s range outside Europe. A rep from People Tree told us they plan to ship to Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the US in addition to the EU countries. They hope to have this available by next week.
People Tree also sent us a couple hi-resolution images from the shoot.
I'm a green person, and it is so cool that Emma is wanting to wear clothes that are safe for the environment, and eco-friendly. I am also a huge lover of writing, and literature, and it is cool that she is taking those courses. I wish Emma continued success in all that she does. I love these pictures and I can't to see High-Quality versions of the pictures.
Too bad the pics aren't bigger,but I'm sure will get them bigger 😉 I'm also one eco-friendly person so I totally support Emma in People Tree,too bad that that brand isn't in Croatia 🙁 and duke,Emma designed this collection???
Valentina, they may add more countries that they will ship too, or perhaps you can order from one of the countries that will carry the line.Some of the artwork is Emma’s, but I wouldn’t say she designed the clothes. She worked with designers at People Tree, giving her ideas and advice about the clothes. You can read in the recent interviews a little about how she was involved.
How can it be that she gets more and mor ebeautiful with every photo?…but she certainly does!
You know it's great for what she is doing. I like her clothes and what she is studying right now. The only thing I have a problem with is I don't want her to do plays like Daniel Radcliffe on broadway or w/e….because when actors do that stuff…it's like hard for fans to go see them because they have to travel if they don't live in the city where they are doing a play. Like fans of Dan had to travel to NY to see his play. It' s really a pain in the a** Great she is doing more acting though but hopefully she will want a movie role too.
Idk if she said a play at her school or what.. 😕 If it's for her school that's awesome but hopefully she won't decide that is all she wants to do as far as acting goes.
If Emma did a play at her college I would love to go see it.

I really like the clothes too, they're completely wearable and even "trendy", but I can't see how students and young people are supposed to afford sweaters in the 100s. Of course organic will be a little pricier, like some of the shirts and dresses are completely reasonable, but some are just not.

Emma seems to have a lot of exciting things on her plate recently. It may be a school play she is doing, but maybe it's something different. She's a girl of many talents and activities. I wish we were able to see the play though. She did the artwork, but as far as designing the clothes her role wasn't a designer role. She may have given them an idea of what type of clothes she wanted, but they were likely made by others. Where will she be in ten year's time? Hopefully married to me with kids. 😛

Yaroslav: I noticed the same thing. I think it very unlikely that she would marry at 19….she's a little too savvy to pull one like that. I think it's most likely it has to do with career. We don't know what her agents may be telling her. As a world-famous beauty, she has to capitalize on that within a certain space of time if she's going to maintain it. There is a LOT of competition out there. Just a guess. Sounds like we may hear about it fairly soon, whatever it is.
