About having to kiss Dan or Rupert on screen (2005): "It would certainly be really, really weird having to kiss either of them, because they're so kind of like my brothers... I don't know, it would be very, very strange. Very strange."

Emma Talks about Why She is Passionate over Fair Trade

In a new video from People Tree, founder Safia Minney interviews Emma Watson during her visit to Bangladesh earlier this summer. In a previous video and interview excerpts on their site, Emma talked about visiting the factory worker slums in Dhaka and the contrast with the Fair Trade community Swallows. In this interview, Emma opens up more about her experience there, the people she met, and how Fair Trade has made such a difference in peoples lives. She makes the point that while people donating to charities helps, it is not sustainable, and that giving people the chance to help themselves through programs like Fair Trade is the real answer.

Thanks to People Tree for the video. And here is a picture of Emma and Safia from the People Tree facebook.

that's why I love you, really love Emma like that.

  2. Roger says:

That's one mighty classy young lady, no doubt about it. Hollywood cranks out one promiscuous drug-addicted "starlet" per week, it seems, and Emma consistently, year after year, brings dignity, pride, and public spiritedness to the British Film Industry. This is a superb model for any aspiring actress to emulate!

  3. Phillip says:

    She's simply incredible.

  4. Karen says:

I love how each of the potter stars are coming into their own charities, and Emma definitely has chosen a good one! I admire her for this, and I think it's a very admirable cause which suits her and her love of fashion perfectly.

  5. glover says:

    Awww,was that a tear I saw.You're gonna make me cry 😥

  6. Valentina says:

    She had long hair!! 🙁

  7. Misha says:

@ Valentina Are you really here just to look at her hair? Did you even listen to what she was saying or look at what she was showing you? *sigh* It doesn’t seem that way. Her words were beautiful; you can really hear the compassion and enthusiasm she feels when she speaks about her experience. She is so inspiring.

  8. Joyce says:

Haha, @Valentina, I see your point, but try listening as well. She's just such an inspirational young woman. I adore her 😆

  9. Alyssa says:

    What a great video! 😆

  10. Jane says:

Emma is so articulate and intelligent! 🙂

  11. andrew says:

    I love u Emma Watson. 😛

  12. GGB says:

Why do these videos are published only months after they were made? 😕

  13. KS987 says:

I love this woman.. Emma is simply a remarkable, intelligent person. I agree with her that simply donating to charities have the flaw of being less sustainable. It would have a more lasting, longer impact letting people continue to work and help themselves while at the same time helping to improve their working conditions and pay them more. You can tell that this trip and the people she has met have made an impact on her. It's one thing to hear about it, it must be quite another to see it up close and participate. Thanks to People Tree for posting this interview. 🙂

Hey, I don´t know if anyone has seen these photos, but I don't think they have been posted up here yet. http://socialitelife.celebuzz.com/archive/2010/08/26/emma_watson_shows_off_new_hair_at_bungalow_8 .php?img=9&gfmt=m&gp=2 I really love to see how happy she seems eventhough the paparazzi is in her face.

  15. Joyce says:

Is that her handwriting on that wall?

  16. Kristin M. says:

*I haven't watched the video yet, but I will in a minute, so I don't even know if my question has been answered… I wonder if she learned the language they speak over there. I'm not sure what you'd call their language, but I wonder if she learned anything. I would love to hear her speak or say something in that language.

  17. Yaroslav says:

Emma in the new role… http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1314729/Emma-Watson-Whats-happened-Harry-Potters-Her mione.html I think this is a new rumor from the Daily Mail … you think so?

  18. 130671 says:

@ Yaroslav Maybe. The Daily Mail is…well, the Daily Mail. Although the role sounds like something Emma could do without missing out too much at uni.

  19. mega says:

    emma is lovly forever 😛

  20. lisa says:

Emma is awesome, wish i had emma accent. love it

  21. Norwegian girl says:

  22. Joyce says:

Mmm, I don't know. Until I see something on emmawatson.com, I won't say anything about her new supposed role.

  23. mio says:

Beautiful. I'm glad that she's raising awareness of what matters. <3

  24. EmRocksSocks says:

Oh, god. What a wonderful woman she is!

  25. Window says:

    😥 ♥ 😥

  26. Cedric says:

Her hair is long again! 😕

  27. dook says:

Cedric, this was filmed a couple months ago when Emma was in Bangladesh.

  28. Josie says:

Wow. Emma is a powerful woman & for her to go from fantasy movies such as Harry Potter, to this, is incredible. She's showing the fame world that's she's just like you & I. She does care about others & not just herself. She's proving that the fame world had never gotten the best of her.

  29. Mislene A. says:

    I love her *-*

  30. Sam says:

Just one more reason to love her. While other celebs are more concerned where they're going to score the next drug hit, Emma's more concerned about making the world a better place. We can use more young celebs like her. Oh, and I love the dress she's wearing, that's really cute!

  31. Leah says:

I disagree with the idea that donations are not sustainable. There are many charities that use donations to teach people how to run their own businesses, how to operate their own farm, how to be self-sustainable, how to earn money, etc etc. That sounds very sustainable to me. Personally I would prefer to donate $100 to an organisation that does such things, rather than buy a $100 dress where probably only $50 of it (if that) gets to the original people who made it. Because let's face it, People Tree needs to pay for marketing, materials, etc etc. I don't hold this against them and I still congratulate Emma for getting involved in a worthy cause. I just think that often outright donations are more useful.

  32. jackie says:

I agree with Emma. Though charities are very helpful it is still better to support the people in having their own means of living… a job/work that will support their family. 🙂 I just love this girl! She's amazing!

  33. Marcus says:

Really, She has got a sharp thinking and a kind heart. Maybe that's why I love her so much 🙂

  34. her says:

    she is a beautiful person

  35. Nicole Burchell says:

giving to charities is a wonderful gesture which really helps but unfortunately like emma said,it does run out but fair trade won't run out so that really helps 🙂 x
