Emma visits Swallows

People Tree has posted an interview of Emma’s visit to Swallows, the Fair Trade community in Bangladesh, in their online magazine. Emma went to see how People Tree clothes were made, getting a little hands on experience, and discovered how Fair Trade fashion can make a difference in people’s lives. Several new photos are included and you can read the interview here. Shop Emma’s Spring/Summer 2011 collection now.

If you see something that’s Fair Trade, just buy it… it makes all the difference. – Emma Watson

She’s wonderful!! Whatever she’s doing is wonderful! I hope she’ll be even more involved with fair trade after leaving People Tree.

  2. berlin says:

Maybe she´s going to establish her own fair trade label?! 😀

  3. Iris says:

I agree with everyone that she is doing something great:) but “just buy it” is not so easy for a lot of people. Clothes are expensive and I don’t always have the money for organic clothing, even though i think it’s so much better.

    • anonymous says:

I agree, Iris! It’s no good to assume that everyone is capable of making such purchases all of the time.

    • dook says:

I don’t think Emma is suggesting everyone should buy Fair Trade all the time. Many people in the world just can’t afford it. Emma talks about the garment factory workers in Dhaka. They are among the lowest paid people in the world, and it would take them about three weeks of wages to buy the cheapest blouse in the collection. But for those who have a choice, meaning they can afford it, and who want to do something to help, Emma is saying choose Fair Trade.

I am so happy that Emma is doing what she’s doing with People Tree. I am hoping she’s doing more of this in the future as well.

  6. Sara says:

She’s very sensitive to other people’s pain. It’s hard to find people like Emma.

Emma’s so amazing for bringing so much much-needed attention to Fair Trade. It’s awesome. I was literally 100% unaware until she became involved and now I try to buy as much Fair Trade as I can. It’s really hard to find though. There’s a itty bitty little Fair Trade station on campus and they sell purses and jewelry. I’ve bought a few things from them.

I was unaware of this too, and I bought some people tree when I went to London two months ago, and it’s soooo comfortable! I would never heard of fair trade if Emma hadn’t work with people tree. I now try to find some fair trade products in Canada.

It’s been an amazing ride and I am glad Emma got involved with People Tree. Though the interview seems familiar to me, as I remember her talking about the 18 year old woman among other things. The pictures are definitely new though. The first picture is my favorite. 🙂

The clothes may be expensive, but it’s necessary since the people who make them deserve a much higher pay and treatment than they usually get in places like Dhaka. If Fairtrade becomes more profitable and widespread, then the prices might become cheaper since more people would be buying the clothes. In any case, let’s hope that the increasing awareness leads to Fairtrade becoming more widespread.

This site belongs to Jo? J. K. Rowling

  13. meandme says:

*lol* I can’t believe people still think J.K. Rowling would have the time (or the will) to create an Emma fansite …so no…not JKR. There are other women on earth named Jo and the one who originally created this website is one of them.

  14. Szymek says:

and if he knows of the existence of this website Emma? I mean, I mean if she knows of the existence of this site, if she visits her sometimes?

    • dook says:

Yes, Emma knows about this site and has visited sometimes. She even has a link to us on her official site under Favourite links.
