Emma appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman in an interview taped earlier in the day before the Deathly Hallows Premiere. Wearing a Balmain dress and Christian Louboutin shoes, she also spent some time outside with the fans.

She’s not proud of having been drunk. She satirically bowed because Letterman was making such a big deal out of it, like she can’t drink because she is famous. And she said she got drunk ONCE. But you could see how uncomfortable Letterman was making her feel! She told him she had been drunk to get him to change subjects!!

It was just fun! If Emma had said something like “I´ve never been drunken” or something like that, it would not have been really funny. This is just an entertaining show and not an interview.

It is normal to be drunk, many people have tried it that’s nothing to be ashamed about at all, after all we are humans and I have to say it takes a few guts say it but again all have been drunk once or twice in there life, hell even i have been that .. And I don’t feel about about it at all. Though I have to say I found this interview kinda funny and entertaining. Though she she seemed to be more relaxed at some parts of the show though.

so i guess i was the odd ball that actually liked it when she got up and was like hell yeah mofo i have been drunk before. honestly i dont see what the big deal is she has grown up, we all have. Almost everyone in the world drinks and has gotten drunk before. Getting drunk ONCE for a young star as hersef is pretty damn awsome, I say. I’m sober as well, never drank myself drunk but I don’t hate on people who made other choises that me.

I really enjoyed the interview until I read the comments. Emma never said that it is normal to be drunk o.O she said it is normal to be drunk ONCE and to make the experience that you shouldn’t drink too much.

Wow guys she’s 21, she’s not the goody two shoes like she was when she was 12. I think now as the Potter series about to end, we’re seeing more of her personality, rather than just Hermione’s. She seems fun and loveable, yet still smart and sophisticated!

wow people are being harsh. She was obviously very uncomfortable with him asking her those questions and she finally answered, and moved on. By the end it was obvious she was irritated and flustered, she held her composure really well with him. She doesn’t talk much about her private life and he obviously wanted to dig to get something out of her that she wasn’t chill talking about.

Hey I think it’s just cool that Dan has admitted to not being so proud of his past drinking and has basically stopped it. Good for him!
What it made me feel a bit upset with her it wasn’t that she was once drunk, but what she did after saying this she was like “A plaudit please”, I know she has pressure and she told the truth but it was her reaction after saying that. And of course I still think that she is an awesome person, actress,etc. I don’t love less my friends to be drunk of course!

What’s up with all the “holier than thou” comments?? Drinking alcohol is perfectly legal if you’re at least 18 in the UK and 21 in the US. I like to drink wine on occasion. Some of my friends & family do too. That doesn’t make us bad people. OMG, I may even have had too much to drink a time or two. OH NO. I must be going straight to H*LL.

I actually enjoyed this interview. I get the fun and the sense of sarcasm from Emma and David. And she looks lovely. I wouldn’t take offense at anything they say, they are having a good time. Lighten up a bit.
I can’t believe people are freaking out over the part where she said she has gotten drunk once. She’s a grown woman! She could legally drink at 18 back in England and can drink legally in America at the age of 21. Why is this a big deal? The media are all over this now too, and it’s getting more attention than when Daniel Radcliffe said that he drank a lot during the filming of HBP!
As for the whole reactions of Americans vs. Britians in the show; first off she’s in America with an American host, so I doubt she wouldn’t be enthusiastic for the American reactions and audience.

I think what she meant about the British is that they are more ‘reserved’ than Americans. That’s a compliment, actually. I’m American and I agree that Americans can be very loud. Of course that’s not an insult to my own country but it’s very true.

Emma has talked about drinking in past interviews, so I’m surprised with many comments on here. She was just joking around when she took a bow, since she was introduced to alcohol at an early age and doesn’t think of it as a big deal like others. She has said that she doesn’t like getting too drunk and in an interview not too long ago she said the last time it happened was at her 21st birthday, so it seems like something she only does on special occasions around people she knows and trusts. I’m 24 personally and I’ve never been drunk in my life, but that’s because I have absolutely no desire to do so. It’s a personal matter though so that’s probably why Emma seemed uncomfortable talking about it.

The media of course are making a big deal of it too. All the “news” sites are mentioning it. It doesn’t matter if she talked about drinking in the past, the media has a very short memory, and if it was more than a few months ago, it’s now new again.
Case in point. Emma said in the Seventeen interview she had a crush on Tom Felton for the first movie or 2. Media makes a huge deal about this revelation from Emma. They conveniently forget Emma talked about having a crush on Tom with Regis and Kelly. Back in 2009!
Indeed. There are plenty of other examples as well. Such as them making a big deal over Emma saying she would do nude scenes(which she said she would only do if she felt the role/movie was worth it), when she had already talked about it in 2007, and just recently they brought up the whole “ten points for Gryffindor” rumor(which was already confirmed false by Emma months earlier) as part of a “bullying” rumor, which she again had to debunk.
I almost got uncomfortable on Emma’s behalf at how Letterman just wouldn’t leave the topic of alcohol. Personally, I don’t know what I would have done in Emma’s situation, but I definately wouldn’t have managed to handle it as well as she did. Her honesty worked well in the akward situation and in my opinion made her seem really sympathetic and human:)

guys stop tripping! Emma was drunk ONCE. And even if there are more occasions of that, does it matter? She’s beautiful, successful, filthy rich, and loads more talented than many of us. I think it’s important that we recognize the fact that she’s not an alien– she’s human and we are all bound to get drunk once or twice! Oh and, her bow= badass.
