About the WB (2007): "Warner Bros have been so supportive of me continuing with school and have been really innovative about how to make it work 'cause obviously it's a bit of a task. Just really clever things like there's a box in my school that is picked up every Friday, teachers put work in it, they send me any marked work, it comes back and forth. They gave me Monday mornings off to go to school to see my teachers, to pick up my school work."

Press Release

OSCAR-WINNING FILMMAKER SOFIA COPPOLA CASTS EMMA WATSON IN NEW FILM, “THE BLING RING”

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA (February 29, 2012) – Sofia Coppola has cast Emma Watson (HARRY POTTER franchise) in her new film, THE BLING RING. Inspired by real events, the film follows a group of teenagers who take part in a string of celebrity burglaries. Watson will lead an ensemble cast.

THE BLING RING will begin shooting this spring in Los Angeles.

In addition to directing THE BLING RING from her screenplay, Coppola will produce the feature with Roman Coppola and Youree Henley. Executive producers for the picture are Fred Roos and Michael Zakin.

THE BLING RING shows a group of teenagers obsessed with fashion and fame who burglarized the homes of celebrities in Los Angeles. Tracking their targets’ whereabouts online, the teens would break-in and steal designer clothes and possessions. Reflecting on the naiveté of youth, amplified by today’s culture of celebrity and luxury brand obsession, the members of the Bling Ring introduce us to temptations that nearly any teenager would find hard to resist. What starts out as youthful fun spins out of control and reveals a sobering view of our modern culture.

“I’m excited about the young cast we’re assembling and I’m looking forward to shooting on location here in Los Angeles,” says Coppola.

Sofia Coppola won the Best Original Screenplay Academy Award for her film LOST IN TRANSLATION and was an Academy Award nominee for Best Director and Best Picture. Her latest film, SOMEWHERE, was awarded the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival.

Emma Watson is best known for her role as Hermione in the HARRY POTTER films and will be seen this fall in THE PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER. She just signed on to star in David Yates’ YOUR VOICE IN MY HEAD and Guillermo del Toro’s BEAUTY AND THE BEAST. She is represented by WME and Markham, Froggatt & Irwin.

good news for emma and his fan(me to) to watch again at the screen.

  2. susangbhatt says:

ya it’s great news.happy to see u get good movies after hp series.curiously waiting 4 perks of being wallflower.

  3. Celia says:

Yay Emma! I’m really proud of her!

  4. Marie says:

I’m not one of them who is complaining about her doing something with Hollywood instead of UK or not , since I don’t see anyone of HP big in Hollywood and I’m not one of them who is saying she is not ready for anything. This has nothings to do with Emma now, it’s her Choice what to do and up to her choosing right Things and I know she is talented

But I would like to know the Reason behind this Movie. It shouldn’t be “Yeah I want to do this too, so I will get a Movie about me one Day” or “I’m so proud now that I did this back then” because there are to many fame obsessed People out there who would really do it if they know they can get a Movie about it. There are people who would do everything to get Fame, espicially with a Idol and a Example how to do it…

    • Thessalie says:

Sophia Copola is a great director, any god actor would want to work with her, I guess if you add a good script that’s enough reasons to make Emma want to play in that move. She’s an acteress and want to keep acting, this seems a perfect choice.

    • greendayfan says:

Actually to be honest, the story of the movie didn’t really get to me. Lately I’ve noticed that Hollywood lacks of imagination. It’s like they are mostly searching for stories that come from books or real life events. And this one doesn’t seem like such a terrific to-be-a-movie story. But anyway, that’s just an early thought, and I believe that Emma and Sofia Coppola are gonna make it worth seeing.

      • Thessalie says:

I actually agree with you !
I was surprised by the subject, but then I thought that if you make a resumé of any good book you find sometimes that the story seems stupid. Let’s just see what Sophia Copola makes of it !

  5. Harald says:

I don’t quite understand what Marie is upset about. What it boils down to is, that being in the movie-business is actually just like being in any other job, only that you do have to be present in public opinion…and not nescessarily in a positive way.So even if it won’t be an Oscar-winning endeavour, it will keep her “out in the open”. She has,so far, made an absolutely positive appearance and even perhaps been a role model for many.Let her show her face and her talent…no matter where in the world.

  6. shane says:

I’m happy for her because she has lots of films to keep her busy and I’m looking forward to all of them! This will be a big slap in the faces of people who keep on saying that she won’t have films after “Potter”..

    • michelle says:

Big slap on haters faces = rupert, dan and bonnie stans! LOL!

      • greendayfan says:

Does this really happen? With these guys’ fans? I would expect a sense of fellowship among fans of these actors.

        • anna says:

yes. It’s sad but all the rupert, dan, tom, bonnie and matt fans hate Emma. Pure jealous!

          • greendayfan says:

Even Rupert and Dan? I could at least comprehend it about Bonnie, because she is a girl, and the fans want to create rivalries between girls, mostly for idiotic things though. But it sounds so weird. I really can’t understand it.

          • SamMonkFan says:

I don’t think that’s always true, I love everyone in the cast, all equally.

          • ondowuzz says:

            how about evanna’s ?

    • carly says:

It’s funny to see how bitter some fans are. They repeating “she can’t act” as if it’s fact but obviously directors, casting agents and her co-stars disagree. As for Rupert fans, blah. I like Rupert well enough but some of his fans are the worst. Very nasty and jealous.

      • michelle says:

i not rupert fan, but i respect him. Now, his stans are the worst thing in the world. And now, Emma works with Coppola. Suc* it idiots.

      • anna says:

the others hp stars fans hate Emma and every thing she does. They can’t comment about the others actors and not talk nasty things about Emma, even she has not with this. Now: guilhermo, david and sofia? They get MAD!!! Eat this.

  7. michelle says:

OMG!!!! YAY EMMA!!! GO GIRL!an slap in rupert’s stans faces. Eat this haters!

  8. Emma says:

cant wait! i knew this would happen. when harry potter was over i knew her movie jobs would start to through the roof!

  9. Shannon says:

I think it will be a great movie for her. I understand people’s concerns, but I think being a mega-star will give her a unique perspective when approaching this character. She has fans mob her daily…maybe the script spoke to her from experience. And as the description states, the “sobering reality” will be what we are left with. I think folks should stop psychoanalyzing every decision she makes and just enjoy the movie.

    • dook says:

I agree. I don’t think this is going to be another “ripped from the headlines” crime movie. Emma said the script was “fantastic”, so I expect it will be a lot deeper than that. As someone pointed out, Emma doesn’t need to work, she doesn’t need the money. And she has big name directors/producers like del Toro after her for their movies. So, she can be choosy about which projects she is involved with.

  10. tabitoo says:

I wish she had chosen “Kristy” instead. I think I’d like to see a movie where a girl kicks bad guys butts rather than a true story about a bunch of materialistic crazed teens stealing from super rich stars. Strife: Orlando Blooms on getting his Rolex collection stolen “Oh the humanity”. Paris and Lindsey getting designer clothes and jewels stolen. Paris “Somethings like missing.” Lohan “Karma maybe.” I just can’t relate or feel any empathy for the ppl envolved. Hope the script proves me wrong and this will be a entertaining story. :/

    • Jen says:

I don’t think the focus on the film is on the “Oh woe is me” celebrities. I think the focus is going to be on the teenagers — what they’re going through as they grow up and the obstacles they face, like the temptation to steal.

  11. anna says:

haters (rupert dan tom and bonnie fans)= JEALOUS!! LMAO

  12. Andrew says:

I wish Emma Good Luck on her next film.

  13. Estelle says:

I never heard of any haters on Emma Watson especially from her co-stars fans, usually I noticed she’s more beloved than almost all American actresses (sad for them but great for her)? But of course you can’t please anybody I rather not read what they say about her cause I won’t believe them. I’m glad Emma is getting more opportunities I don’t care which genre I just want to see her play different characters. Since it’s in LA you know how paparazzis are with taking pics and hassling stars I hope Emma can handle them (I know she could). YOU GO EMMA!

    • anna says:

trust, rupert/dan/bonnie fans loves hate Emma. They are very nasty with her. Look on icm, ontd, pottershots, snitchseeker. Just rude/harsh things/comments about Emma.

      • Estelle says:

Thanks but I rather read the loveable stuff about Emma. Maybe I’ll look just to Laugh out loud because I won’t believe anything they say. And I’m sure Emma will have the last laugh.

  14. SamMonkFan says:

I’m glad she’s getting a chance to stretch her wings, but I’m a tiny bit disapointed…I once read somewhere that she would only want to take on a role in a project that was meaningful, like a story about Helen Keller, or something. and I’m a little worried that when she’s in LA she’ll be exposed to all the negative sides, like Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus (don’t get me wrong, I love Miley, but somethings she does are not very positive) and even Lindsay Lohan. I just hope she keeps her feet on the ground, and doesn’t fall into drugs and stuff…It would break my heart to see her go through that, when she’s such a strong, intelligent, and beautiful woman.

  15. KS987 says:

As I mentioned, this was certainly a pleasant surprise. We were all waiting to hear about the projects Emma’s been rumored or linked to, when this came out of the blue and Emma confirmed it immediately. We didn’t even hear rumors about her being attached to Bling Ring beforehand like we usually do. As always I’m excited that Emma has landed a new role and I can’t wait to learn more about this film. The press release mentioned that she also signed on for YVIMH and BATB. We’ll have to wait and see how true that is, but if it is, then that’s possibly 3 new roles for Emma recently, and five post-Potter roles since 2010 so far. Her career is really taking off in a huge way. 🙂

  16. Jason says:

I for one could hope the quality of comments picks up here before long. I’ve been a long time Emma fan, and a long time reader of this Emma site, which I like, but when it starts to get into name calling, the inappropriate characterization of other actors, what they may or may not have said about Emma, the qualiity of choices Emma makes (you may notice she’s done exceptionally well)then I think we cross a line. There are a lot of other things to talk about. Like everyone else, my patience has limits when it comes to the abuse of appropriate levels of public discourse.
