About the Yule Ball dress (2005): "This dress was actually made especially for me, it was designed for me and I had loads and loads of fittings for it so I kinda saw it through all of its stages. I love that dress, it's amazing. I wanted to take it home with me, but I couldn't."

New People Tree Collection Launches

People Tree has launched their new Autumn/Winter collection endorsed by Emma Watson. New on their website is a message from Emma, along with an interview she gave to Safia Minney, founder of People Tree, and a new video. The video, which you can also view below, follows Emma on her trip to Bangladesh. She first visits the ‘apalling’ slums of Dhaka where the ‘fast fashion’ garment factory workers live. She then visits the Fair Trade producer group Swallows where the People Tree clothing is made. Finally we see Emma in a photoshoot modeling some of the items in the collection.

The interview and message includes new pictures of Emma on her trip, and modelling some of the clothing. WeΒ  have a few of those in HQ below. Emma talks about the collection, and contrasts the living conditions of the fast fashion factory workers with that of Fair Trade community. We’ve includedΒ  a few quotes below, but there is much more in the full interview.

‘Although I wasn’t centrally involved in the design of this collection, I had great fun in helping People Tree select some gorgeous Fair Trade textiles — a dogtooth hand-woven check, cable knits, and the first Fair Trade hand-woven brushed checked fabric which has been made into easy tulip skirts, dresses and shirts. There are even a few party dresses, such as the little black satin tulip dress which can be dressed up or down to suit any occasion’

‘Following my summer collection for People Tree I wanted to visit Bangladesh to see the difference Fair Trade makes. The contrast between the slums in Dhaka (the capital of Bangladesh) where the people who work in the garment factories live and Swallows (the Fair Trade community supported by People Tree) was all too apparent. I still find it hard to convey what Fair Trade means to those producing our fashion — it’s just so impressive to see how the women have used Fair Trade clothing to escape poverty and empower themselves and their children. I was moved and inspired.’

‘I want to congratulate People Tree on this new range and really hope people continue to buy these clothes and to support their great work in the promotion of Fair Trade.’

  4. Roger says:

When I consider the class act that is Emma Watson–studious, serious, disciplined, compassionate, activist, civic-minded and modest in her own behavior, and then I consider some of the so-called starlets of the Hollywood variety, I am immediately impressed by the fact that I am looking at creatures that might as well be from different planets. God bless her. What a role model she is!

  5. Valentina says:

  7. Window says:

And she went away from me and moved through the fair; And fondly I watched her move here and move there; And then she went onward, just one star awake; Like the swan in the evening moves over the lake… πŸ™‚

  11. Mary says:

  15. Tia says:

She is seriously, SUCH and INSPIRATION! She's not the kind of actress whose just out there to grab attention, and make it all about herself. She's actually going the lengths to helping the world. Truly amazing. Thats realy magic right there.

  16. Celia says:

I feel so bad for those families who are forced to live in those conditions. Thank goodness for people like Amin, Emma, and People Tree who are trying to change this. These people do not deserve this. 32 People to ONE bathroom??…Excuse me, whole in the ground!! 😑 Emma looks stunning in the photoshoot. I can't wait to buy something from the new line.

  17. mar says:

i respect emma a lot for what she's doing and because she's lovely but she's looking very thin πŸ˜•

  18. KS987 says:

This just goes to show how amazing Emma Watson is. I was hoping that we finally got more news from this trip after reading an article about it a while back, and I certainly wasn't disappointed. I love how dedicated she is, traveling all the way to Bangladesh to spend time with those people and even participating in making the clothes. You can tell she enjoyed being at Swallows, especially with the kids. There are way too many places in the same condition as the Dhaka slums, and that needs to change, though when it will change is unknown, since they have been in those conditions for a very long time. Hopefully with people like Emma and People Tree this improvement will be sooner than later. She looks stunning in the photoshoot. Her beauty is going to kill me one day. Thanks to People Tree for giving us the great interview, video, and photoshoot. πŸ™‚

  19. Alisha says:

This is beautiful in all ways… Because she is in the heart… Always… πŸ™‚

  24. Maria says:

The Children are so cute,I'm sorry for these People But I hope People will stop saying that this what Emma and People Tree did there was Fake and behind the Camera different (yes many think that)

  25. manisha says:

Emma is beautiful, incredible person πŸ™‚ She's great with children, i am impressed!! I love that she toke the time to help out and try it herself. also, there's a new message from her on facebook http://www.facebook.com/emmawatson/posts/109237099134510

  26. kaustubh says:

Awesume !! She Loves to live life like a normal person which i like the most… πŸ™‚

  27. Isabelle says:

aaaaw it's so cute to see her with the kids and so… and she is so cute modelling! I love her… sigh…

  28. Mima says:

OMG I'm from Bangladesh! You rarely hear about the big celebs ever making trips there, how fantastic of her to see it all firsthand and see the difference she's making. Emma is beautiful, inside and out… but speaking of which, am I crazy or does the first photo look really photoshopped, almost as if they made her head too big for her body?

  29. EmmaFan says:

I love the clothes, and Emma in them, but I wish she would SMILE in just at least one picture. It really lights up her beautiful face better then that burberry pout. I mean, it still looks good, but I suppose i can't get over the days when she was 15-18 πŸ˜†

  30. EmmaFan says:

Either way, what she is doing is admirable – I applaud her once more πŸ™‚ Not many people would take the time to spend on such a good cause, like she does. I really enjoyed seeing the collection online, and am certain, that if lucky, I shall LOVE wearing the grey dress, and plaid t-shirt <3

  31. Audrey says:

I love this new line! It's gorgeous, as is Emma. The way she contributes just amazes me! I'm very impressed. A question to anybody…I have scans to send in, but the news link doesn't work! How do I send them in? Help please!

  32. dook says:

Audrey, if you mean the links that says News tips /comments, that’s just a mailto link. If your mail program doesn’t open, you can just copy and paste emmawatson.source@gmail.com and send it there.

  33. Adrian L says:

I miss her hair. She is SO gorgeous in those pictures! I'm still not used to her short cut. =(

  34. EmmaFan says:

Adrian, by the time Emma is back in the public eye, i.e interviews, photo-shoots, etc (probably after she's finished Brown) her hair should be back to it's old length. Or, if it's not, you will get used to it after seeing it short for a couple of months πŸ˜‰ I guareente you, it will happen πŸ˜›

  35. just_your_normal_bookworm says:

Emma is such an amazing, kind, caring and giving person. She is a true role model. She looks really petite in the pictures, but she also very beautiful and stylish.

  36. britishemmafan says:

This was before she cut her hair. It looks great, I think that she has learned a lot about design. They are much better.

  37. Audrey says:

dook, thank you so much. πŸ™‚

  38. Aleksandra says:

wow, great journey. I like Emma coz she always know whatr she should do. kisses ;*

  39. astha says:

She is such a wonderful person… I love that simple look of hers.. a salwar kurti…that's what even we wear πŸ™‚ such a kind girl emma is… Very very inspiring πŸ˜₯

  40. Alvira says:

Hey Emma. It's amazing to think that you found time, out of your hectic life 2 be a part of the industrial face of your clothing line. I wish you would do more to help those who make your clothes look fabulous, then they would have more reason to work harder than they already do πŸ™‚

  41. Alexandra says:
