About Hermione's future (2007): "There's this theory that she's going to die and I really didn't have that in my plans for what she would achieve (the audience laughs). I want to see her putting her intellect and her naturally very caring nature to some very worthy cause, like I want to see her in another country protesting for the rights of house-elves, or continuing with SPEW, or just generally making the world a better place and hopefully, you know, being married to Ron and have lots of beautiful babies..."

Emma in the Sunday Times, Kamarat and Girlfriend

The latest Sunday Times had a large magazine special on Harry Potter with new photoshoot images, new behind-the-scenes, and interviews with the cast. I’ve posted the section about Emma below. The whole article in higher resolution is in the gallery. Thanks to Chiera for sending us the scans.

Kamarat magazine from Slovakia had a couple features with Emma. Thanks to Emmush for the scans.

We now have scans of Girlfriend from Australia. Thanks to Alyssa for the scans. Some of the text is hard to read, so she also typed up the article for us. Thanks Alyssa.

After 10 years spent growing up in the Wizarding World, this months’ release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part One marks the end of a significant chapter in the life of one of its stars, Emma Watson (she even chopped her fluffy Hermione locks into a chic new pixie ‘do to drive the point home). So with Deathly Hallows: Part Two also wrapped up and set for cinemas next July, what’s in store next for the 20-year-old actress? We caught up with Emma in L.A to find out…

We’re onto the final installment of Harry Potter now. Can’t believe you’ve been doing this for 10 years!
I know. It’s crazy, right? Everyone who works on this film has practically become my family. When it ends, it is going to be very strange, but I’m excited as well.

So what do you think you’ll do?
I’ll become a hermit, live in one room and not do anything! There is going to be a massive wrap party, I know that.

What are you looking forward to most in life post-Harry Potter?
I’m going to university so I’ll have some qualifications if it all goes wrong (laughs).

Why did you choose an American university over and English one?
I think I was just excited about a liberal arts education, which we don’t have in England. It means you can study four different subjects a term whereas in England you just have to do one and you do that for four years. I found that quite narrow.

You always look so stylish, Emma. What’s your best style secret?
You have to love what you wear. I think that’s important. I like things that are original. For casual stuff, I’ll wear Zara, Gap, Top Shop, Agnes B. I like to mix it up… mix and match more cheap stuff with more expensive things. I think vintage is great as well.

When you were growing up, what did you want to be?
When I was younger I said, “I want to be a princess, I want to be a fairy, and I want to be an actress,” so I’ve crossed off two out of three [Emma did the voice of Princess Pea in The Tale of Despereaux]. I just have to find a way to be a fairy now. Oh well. Two out of three ain’t bad!

In terms of acting, what sort of roles can we expect to see you in after Harry Potter?
There’s not one specific genre. I want to do lots of different things. I’d love to do a musical, I’d love to do a period drama. I would love to do some smaller, independent films – a bit of everything really.

When you’re having a not-so-great day, what are your instant cures for making yourself feel happy?
Easy. Eat chocolate, have a bath, watch a film, and talk to my friends.

If you weren’t an actress, what would you like to do?
I like art a lot actually. Maybe I’d be some crazy, eccentric, bohemian painter in Paris. That would be cool!

The Sunday Times interview was brilliant. I find it interesting that both Emma's personal life and her career seemed to help Emma cope with both, and how all of her experiences helped turn her into the person she is now. I will say though that while reading about how she was treated like an adult as a child I thought to myself "man, that is completely different from how I was raised." 😛 And that picture of Emma had me thinking the same thing(my oh my indeed). And it's only a matter of time before she is able to be a fairy as well. She just has to wait for the script. 😛

Am I the only one who thinks Emma would make a great Tinkerbell? She's certainly got an expressive enough face for it. 😛

She was a fairy! In Ballet Shoes, she played one in the play 🙂 She even flew in and everything! Mission accomplished 😛

I found it interesting that Emma was treated like an adult and didn't even have any kids' stuff. It was like that only at his fathers, right? I couldn't even imagine my life if I hadn't had any toys! 😀 But it's quite weird that somebody wants to have adult conversations with like a 7 years old little girl. Well, at my age, I couldn't have had that kind of conversations. My topics would have only been how my elder brother teased me again and stole one of my favourite toys or what funny neighbours Tommy had said… Did they have conversations about politics or something more sophisticated? But then again, from the really first interviews Emma have had, you see immediately that she's really smart. She didn't answer only "no", "yes" or "I don't know" but she stated reasons for everything she said. And that's surely due to these adult conversations se had had. When I was 10 years old, I often stated these short answers and if somebody asked me why, I used to say "just because". 😀

nice interview with Emma. The reporter seems to like her very much and why not? What I don't understand is why this reporter was so hard on Rupert. She even writes "dare I say it?". Well she shouldn't have taken her own dare. ugh.

  11. nounounoun says:

It seems to me that Emma doesn't even like Rupert that much. She has told in the newest interviews that Rupert is quiet. If he is seriously a real friend, like a sibling to her, doesn't she seriously have ANTHING else to say about him? I have friends who are quiet if you don't know them well but when you become friends with them you see they have manymany more characteristics in them. "Rupert is funny and guiet". Quiet sounds quite negative in my ears…
