About what Perks meant to her (2011): "I just finished The Perks of Being a Wallflower, which was just the most incredible experience. I had the best six weeks. I'm very excited about that movie. Having an experience like that outside of Harry Potter is what really convinced me that acting really is what I should be doing. I'm excited about the idea of being an actress now in a way that I wasn't so sure of before."

New Role for Emma // 05 August 2007

According to an article in the Sunday Mirror, Emma has been cast in the upcoming BBC One adaptation of Ballet Shoes that will be broadcast later this year. She will play one of the three orphaned sisters in this classic childrens story. Thanks to Jane and Marty for the tip.

Harry Potter’s pal Hermione Granger is to star in a BBC adaptation of classic children’s tale Ballet Shoes.

Emma Watson, 17, will play an orphan in the feature-length film of Noel Streatfield’s 1936 book.

The 90-minute drama, also featuring comedian Victoria Wood and Hustle star Marc Warren, will be the teen actress’s first TV role. It will also see her reunited with Potter costar Richard Griffiths – Harry’s evil Uncle Vernon.

Filming on the lavish adaptation will start this month and it is expected to be the centrepiece of the Beeb’s Christmas line-up.

Ballet Shoes follows the tale of three orphaned sisters who are adopted by an eccentric explorer and raised by his niece.

A TV source said: “Emma was practically born for this role.”

This is wonderful news if true, but there is no official word yet. A press release from BBC One on 20 July says that open casting for the sisters would take place the following week. Shooting begins this month.

We will update you when more information is available.

    kool ! 2 bad i dont live in england 😥 🙁 none theless i hope shell do a gr8 job as usual ! 🙂 😉 😆 😛

  15. REF says:

We need OFFICIAL comfrimation of the is so-called new role from Emma's own website, otherwise it could just be another one of those rumours that turns out to be unfounded. Can't someone here check with Jo over at emmawatsonofficial?

  16. Louisa says:

isn't the daily mail a tabloid? i wouldn't believe it if i were you. emma says she doesn't have a boyfriend and she has no time for one anyway. if she really is cast in ballet shoes, along with hbp filming and doing voice work for that animated film and doing school work, she has no time.

  17. Kyla says:

if its true it would be AMAZING!!! I love that book! but the girls are much younger then Emma in the book… I wonder how that will work? oh well! too bad I dont live in England!

  18. Rods says:

that's true 😕 This link is a fake?! 😆 kkkkk

  19. Yiz says:

That's awesome!!! OMG, I want to see it, but I don't live in the UK, will it broadcast here in the US too? I hope it's true!! Start e-mailing Jo for confirmation!

  20. raluca says:

I hope that`s true and I hope she`ll manage with it. Anyway, maybe the movie will be broadcasted on hbo too because they often air tv shows or movies from bbc. So keep your fingers crossed for the ones that don`t live in the uk 🙂

  21. connor says:

i am british and emma is a great actress and will be great ata anyrole at any time luv ya emma

  22. Matt says:

I really have a suspicion that this is a rumour only because she starts filming for HBP in September and she said that she wants to go to continue school and said that she wanted to make sure that the filming of the Harry Potter movies wouldn't interfere with her school work. Maybe it's just me, but I'm not going to believe it until she says it herself or it is posted on her official website.

  23. nery says:

hola les escribo desde chile solo para desirle que amo emma solo eso y nada mas ella es mi sue

  24. Nimy says:

I would like to see Emma acting on it! I hope so 🙂

  25. Bonnie says:

'Filming will start this month'? Uhm, and what's with HBP? And her school work? I definetely agree with Matt…

  26. Emma says:

HBP doesn't start until September…that doesn't necessarily mean the beginning of the month…and that doesn't mean either that she will be required for the first shoot. School is out at the moment, so that isn't a concern. The voice-work is next summer, isn't it? TV dramas, such as this, usually shoot for 4-6 weeks, so Emma has plenty of time in which to do it.

  27. VictoR_WatsoN says:

Yeaah! Finally a new role that is not Harry Potter, I am happy for you Emma. =D Kisses, Victor.

  28. andrew says:

http://www.scifi.com/sfw/interviews/sfw16273.html. I've found another interview on scifi.com about the fifth movie .

  29. Chris says:

Nice if true. If the BBC are doing open casting for the sisters, that probably means the news is just a rumour. Either that or they mean Emily Watson. 😉

  30. Rachel says:

what's with the harry potter kids playing orphans and working with richard griffiths….I'm seeing a trend! but that's great news for her! 😆

  31. Euge says:

    Wow, that's great 😉 But I'm not british 😥

  32. Jennifer says:

This is nuts! I was just telling someone today about how my favorite childhood author was Noel Streatfeild and how much I adored the Shoes books, especially Ballet Shoes and Dancing Shoes! I hope this adaptation is much better than the last one. Wow. That's a crazy coincidence. I suppose she'd be playing Pauline…she's definitely not a Posy or Petrova, and I can't envision any other character for her…

  33. Lisa says:

Just because filming for HBP prince starts in September doesnt mean Emma's part start in September. This could be a rumour but I hope its true. SOunds like an interesting role. I think she will either play the ballerina sister or the actress.

  34. Adrianna says:

This is Awesome News =) Hope its True and it comes out on DVD for us who who don't live in England!

  35. Rose says:

That's awesome!!! OMG, I want to see it, but I don't live in the UK, will it show here in the US too?..it be so cool 2 see her as someone besides Hermione.

  36. Kat xx says:

um the mirror? hmmm maybe – but yeah she'd be really busy! ho hum hope she is! yay! xx

  37. Phlegm says:

im not british either. i cant see the movie 😥

  38. Niamh says:

Where are the open auditions being held??

  39. Emma says:

The article dated July 20th said "next week" so the auditions have long since been done.

  40. rach says:

well i wish her the best of luck!! does anyone know when the open castings are??

  41. Dimi says:

i know dat shez gonna play dis role as beautifully as she is! 😉

  42. Dimi says:
