About acting (2009):"I had been doubting if I wanted to act for the rest of my life. The reason is because I was only nine when I started. They went to my school, and they picked me. I auditioned and I got the role. I never went to acting school, I didn't know I wanted to be an actress. It's amazing, but just because it happened doesn't mean that it's the right fit for me. It took me awhile to decide what to do. And now I think it is. I come from a family of lawyers and academics, we didn't watch movies in my house. I didn't know who Gary Oldman or Maggie Smith were. So I educated myself watching thousands of movies. Now I'm passionate about it."

Rumored New Role for Emma // 18 April 2008

There is news today from The Hollywood Reporter that Emma is attached to star in Napolean and Betsy after Scarlett Johansson dropped out. From the article: “Watson will play Betsy Balcombe, a young, impetuous noblewoman trapped on the isolated British Isle of St. Helena who falls in love with Napoleon, who is in exile on the island.” The period drama would likely begin shooting in the fall before Deathly Hallows starts in 2009. We have also heard that Emma will be appearing on the ITV program Travels in Written Britain, a new series that will look at “how the places of Britain have influenced writers throughout history.” Emma will read an excerpt from George Eliot’s great niece’s diary.     According to a Harry Potter site, they e-mailed her agent who reportedly confirmed the role a while ago. However, Emma usually mentions her roles on her official site. I will wait until she confirms it to call it official.
