About her favourite directors (2009):"Well, I shouldn't say I have a favorite director-that wouldn't be very diplomatic. But one of the people I enjoyed working with most was Alfonso Cuaron [who directed Watson in the third Potter film, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004)]. I have a real thing for Mexican directors. And I love Guillermo del Toro and Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu."

Emma in “Queen of the Tearling” Trilogy

Emma Watson is attached to star in The Queen of the Tearling, adapted from a fantasy trilogy by Erika Johansen, according to a report in Variety. Harry Potter’s David Heyman will produce the Warner Bros. project and Emma will be executive producer.

The trilogy is said to be similar to Game of Thrones. “Set three centuries after a small portion of the human race has populated a landmass that mysteriously emerged in the wake of an environmental catastrophe, the series follows nineteen-year-old princess Kelsea Glynn, who must reclaim her deceased mother’s throne and redeem her kingdom, the Tearling, from forces of corruption and dark magic of The Red Queen, the sorceress-tyrant of the neighboring country, Mortmesne” The books have not been published yet (Harper Collins, 2014) and no director or scriptwriter has been selected so the project is in early development.

Thanks for not calling it the female version of GoT. <333

  2. Chris L says:

It’s not so much the role that interests me, it’s the fact that at the age of 23 she’s going to be the Executive Producer of a franchise. They are probably a good 2 years from this getting made, so this is an amazing time to learn BEHIND the camera.

  3. sherry905 says:

They must have a lot of faith in the story if they decided to turn the trilogy into films before it’s even out… even though I’m always wary of books which are being promoted as “the next such and such”, especially because GoT isn’t male or female oriented (Dany, Cersei, Melisandre etc. anyone?) and isn’t in the YA genre, either.
I’m guessing Emma will play play the princess, but small part of me wishes this queen is actually a young one in her 20s and Emma would play her, because after playing the Hermione and Belle in her other fantasy movies, it would be nice if she would play the villain for once, especially since this princess is 19, and she could potentially be playing her until her mid- or late-twenties.

Wish u BEST OF LUCK as producer.

  5. ariadne says:

I’m so happy for Emma! She gets to be a producer at such a young age.

  6. Thessalie says:

I’m afraid it may not work next to GoT. Every one will compare, it’s eather as good or less apreciated and forgotten. On another hand, seeing Emma as executive producer is very good news, though it’s a bit early, no ?

Well, I’m always glad to see Emma in new projects, i hope it will evolve in a good way.

What about Beauty and the Beast, no news ? ^^

I’m a bit upset that I can’t just run to the Library or book store and obtain this book. πŸ™ So until I am able to read the source material I have no opinion on this yet except that I’m happy for Emma to be working with David again. πŸ™‚

  8. D-one says:

I really think the same than many others: it’s too early for Emma to be an executive producer. Even if she’s been 10+ years in the industry, having just about 5 films made overall does not give her yet the necessary experience to successfuly perform this important position…

However, I believe in you, Emma πŸ™‚ … So, if you really have the oportunity now, go for it! πŸ˜‰

My best wishes & support in all you do.

“it’s too early for Emma to be an executive producer.

She’ll do fine. The important thing is to hire very good assistant producers. Maybe some who have been producers in their own right.

She’s smart. She’ll get it sorted out.

    • sparkvark111 says:

Not all producers have the same level responsibility or workload. With her being the lead, I do not think she will be responsible for day-to-day producing.

  9. Liz87 says:

Hey! Can someone explain to me what a ‘tearling’ is?

  10. Dayne says:

Just saw this is the end. Funny movie! Oh, and Emma Watson is in it! Lol

  11. Kristen says:

The thing is that yes Emma may be young to be an exec producer, but this young woman is extremely intelligent and well, does have 14 years of experience as an actress…she has seen it all, worked with amazing directors and producers. Plus to reunite with Heyman would be awesome. I foresee this project happening around 2015 or could be earlier. Either way, I wish Emma best of luck!! She will ROCK it πŸ™‚

  12. 130671 says:

She better not wait too long to get this started if she also plans on playing the lead part.
Otherwise being a 19yr-old princess might become a bit difficult.

  13. Andrew says:

I’m a fan of Game of Thrones but why call it ‘the female’ Game of Thrones? Wtf? Game of Thrones is for females and males.
Anyways, good for Emma. I hope she gets to work with good stars in this film. πŸ™‚

    • dook says:

I don’t know anything about Game of Thrones, but I agree it was unnecessary, so I left it out of what I said.

  14. ondo says:

seriously? hmmm… i hope it will be as good as LTR trilogy. make a mark in history, em.

    • ondo says:

oh yeah, didn’t emma say she wants to do more theater after she graduates (which will happen soon)?

  15. tabitoo says:

“Female Game of Thrones” ? does this translate into only the really attractive men in the film will be getting naked.:) sounds good to me. πŸ˜‰

  16. KS987 says:

This news is huge if it’s true. Emma mentioned wanting to work behind-the-scenes in the past, but I didn’t think it would happen this soon. Then again it depends on when they begin production on it, which won’t be for a while as the book isn’t out yet. I’m surprised that she would take on a trilogy so soon, but acting is unpredictable and projects she would love to be apart of can be offered at any time. πŸ™‚ I hope we hear from Emma about this project, but it probably won’t be for a while.

  17. Bradley says:

I predict this rumor/report will be debunked soon. First and foremost, NO ONE is quoted or commenting on it in any way. Not Emma, not David Heyman (or any other producer), not any anonymous “officials from Warner Brothers.” Very poor journalism on the part of Variety to publish a report with no verifiable source or attribution.

Second, as others this thread have pointed out, the books have not even been published (so there is no public feedback that might pique the interest of producers) and yet someone is willing to take the enormous financial risk of turning the literary works into a film trilogy???

The book “Perks of being a Wallflower” had been published (with the success of a signficant following) years before the screen adaptation and yet Emma herself admits that she really had to fight to have it made into a film.

  18. Nicole says:

Sounds good! I hope its not just a rumor, i’ve never seen Game Of Thrones, but this sounds like it has an interesting plot. There’s no confirmation of who’s playing who,so i don’t know why everyone is assuming Emma will be playing the princess πŸ˜› if something does come out of this rumor, it will be great to see David and Emma working together again and see Emma as an executive producer at the young age of 23! Great honour!!
