About meeting Robin Williams (2002): "I met Robin Williams the other night, when I was in NY. (Interviewer: and did he know who you were)? Yes, he did! (Interviewer: that's cool!) Yes, that's VERY cool!"

New Trio Photos // 15 March 2009

There are new promotional photos of Emma, Rupert and Dan included in a feature on Half-Blood Prince in the April issue of Nick Magazine (shown in the first scan below). The picture of Emma isn’t actually new though. It has been used on the Noble Collection’s French site which we told you about on March 8, and also from the Noble Collection’s print catalog back in November. Thanks to Jade for the scan. The picture in Nick is clear of advertising though. Thanks to TLC for the Nick scan.

We also have a more complete translation of the Crash article, thanks to Neve.

How did your acting career start? I was nine when people came to my school to hold auditions for the HP movies. I was already a big fan of the books so my teacher told me to go ahead. After around 8 auditions and tests with other “Rons” and “Harrys”, I got the part!

You started playing Hermione when you were 10. Now you’re 18. It’s rather rare to see an actor growing up playing the same part. How does that feel? It wasn’t easy growing up on the big screen. When you’re a teenager, you’re worried by a million things. You learn, you grow up, you make mistakes. It was hard going through this moment of changes while being part of such a huge production.

What’s the most interesting thing about being an actress? I love analysing a character: understanding how she’d react in a given situation, what she’d be thinking. I love the escapism of it. You can forget yourself completely. I love digging into my positive and negative memories. I keep them alive to be able to bring them back quickly while doing a scene.

How do you see your future? I don’t do it! I only care about the next 5 years… maximum! I’m only 18! Anything can happen! I’m taking advantage of all the opportunities!

Why do you want to go to university? I feel alive and motivated when I’m learning. I never want to stop learning. I want to meet new people. I want to know what I like besides the movie industry, because it’s a world that can be very isolating and the work can be quite intermittent. I want to fill in the gaps with something I love. And I want to be anonymous. I want to feel normal for a while.

What are you going to study? I want to speak French fluently, like when I was a kid. I want to paint better. I want to learn photography. I haven’t studied History since I was 15 and I’d like to go back to studying it. I love literature. And I’ve never studied philosophy or politics.

You are very humble. You don’t play “the star”. How do you feel about child stars? I don’t really like that label. Child stars don’t follow the best paths… if you listen to the media. They always seem to forget Meryl Streep, Natalie Portman, Julia Stiles, Jodie Foster. I don’t think I’m bound to fail. I’m not more messed up than somebody else. I’m not a drug addict. Sure, life’s not going to be easy after HP. I’ll always be a bit scared of becoming a “former child star”. I’ll probably never be as famous, as young, as well paid as I am today. But it will all depend on how I will see my own success.

How do you separate your private life and your public life? I like having my privacy, but it’s rather difficult at the moment. I never talk about my love life, and journalists grumble a lot about that. In a certain way, having people speculate is better. Nobody knows the truth, but they keep writing articles anyway: they have no credential. Audrey Hepburn always said: “I don’t care what they write about me, as long as it’s not true.” Tabloids are ridiculous, and I tend to agree with her. But I can’t really complain. Relatively speaking, I’ve been rather well-treated.

You’re really keen on fashion. Why? It’s such a pleasure! I love dressing up, it’s expressive, it’s creative! I appreciate fashion the same way I appreciate Art.

What are your favourite designers? Chanel, Vivienne Westwood, Balenciaga, Balmain, Preen, Christopher Kane, Marc Jacobs…

What did you think of your first experience with Karl Lagerfeld? I’ve been a fan for a long time, but it’s only now that I start realising the magnitude of his work. I REALLY think he’s a genius. Besides, the photoshoot we did is one of the nicest I’ve ever had.

Where would you like to live? France.

Your worst nightmare? Sharks!

Are you involved in charities? I’m starting slowly. I want my decisions to be based on thorough information and to participate in actions that really make a difference. I don’t want to just be the “face” of a project.

Are you green? I cannot not be “green”. I did my end of school project on global warming and hurricane Katrina. I studied the effects on a small scale, like the dam projects in London, but also on a bigger scale. My car is electric, I recycle, I take public transportation, I try not to buy and drink bottled water. I’m not a purist and I’m not perfect, but it’s something I feel strongly about.

Do you believe in magic? Yes. Not everything can be explained.

Do you believe in miracles? I got the part, didn’t I?

Your favourite kind of music? I’ve been listening to a lot of blues and folk lately.

Your favourite sound? That of a baby laughing.

Your favourite scent? Rose Raspberry.

Your favourite book? “The Shadow of the Wind” by Carlos Ruiz Zafรณn.

Your favourite piece of Art?
My favourite artists are Euan Uglow, Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele and Jenny Saville. I love Tim Walker’s photographs. I want to live in a Tim Walker photograph! I went to see the Francis Bacon exhibition at the Tate Gallery a few months ago and it was the most beautiful exhibition I had ever seen. But don’t ask me to pick just one piece of art, it’s too difficult!

  8. Almaz says:

    ๐Ÿ™‚ yeah Interesting interviev

  9. Luis says:

Probably she had an email account in the past, but not anymore (unless she´s still having one in secret, we really don´t know). She´s not much involved with all of these internet stuffs, as she said before; however, fans around the World can reach her by her official webpage. Thanks for translating and sharing this interview, actually this is the most interesting one I´ve ever read ๐Ÿ™‚ We are one month away from her birthday (time goes so fast!)… any idea to make the difference? ๐Ÿ˜•

  10. Lionpaws says:

Awesome interview! Nice to see the full version of it. I'm reading "Shadow of the Wind" at the moment and I LOVE it! It's beautiful and so engaging, I can't put it down. Zafon is now one of my favorite authors. Thanks Emma for the recommendation!!! ๐Ÿ˜†

  11. frederique says:

have u seen the new candids on http://www.watsonportal.net. there are private pics on the website too but i think this is an invasion of privacy! ๐Ÿ˜ก

  12. Fonty says:

Again, "candids" don´t interest me, neither do sites that show them. And Emma Watson´s e-mail-address is a private matter that those, who actually know it, should guard very closely. The Crash-Interview is very nice and believable, unlike the current Daily Telegraph one .. therefore, I have decided to stop believing anything the Daily Telegraph writes. ๐Ÿ™‚ What would be nice is an official list of her given inteviews that actually contains things that she said, that´s something for EWO ๐Ÿ™‚

  13. Seb says:

Nice interview ! Emma is great ! ๐Ÿ˜›

  14. dook says:

frederique, I haven’t seen any private pics on the site. They do have paparazzi candid pics, but I don’t consider the ones posted to be private, just not something that we’ll post. And I didn’t see any new candids.

  15. eva says:

Hello. I am Eva fom emma watson portal. I read the comment that frederique wrote and even thought I don't believe those photos where so private and horrible so they shouldn't publish, I actually think you are right. Right after I will go delete the albums. Just wanted to say thank you because I am really a huge and true EMMA FAN.

  16. Dakota says:

"Shadow of the Wind" was a good read. I just read it a few months ago. ๐Ÿ™‚

  17. cemal says:

    GREAT:) ๐Ÿ˜‰

  18. katie says:

What are you doing for emmas birthday this year?

  19. DHA says:

Sometimes I feel so bad for Emma, she's so special and her mind's absolutely fantastic. She deserves to find that particular peace that she wants. I hope she finds it.

  20. KS987 says:

^ I hope she does as well.

  21. Maria says:

Shes such an inspiration. She takes eevrything slowly and is careful who she mixes with and what could be unfaithful to her. She had common sense. looks very nice on SOTM

  22. aiai says:

    she's really intelligent!!

  23. KS987 says:

Don't worry Emma. No shark is a match for me. I can strangle a great white with my bare hands. ๐Ÿ˜›
