Tu Magazine - August 2007

TU: How has been your experience on this fifth film?

Emma: It has been a very amusing experience, having David Yates directing this film has been great, because he has made changes, and we love that.

Rupert: Yes, is good to be back, is a new script, there are new writers, a new director, and is a new experience, and yes, it has been great.

TU: How do you feel now with your characters?

Emma: For Hermione this movie is similar to the role she played at the first film, she is the one who guides Harry and Ron, trying to encourage them, and she's the brain of the trio. She tries to take care of Harry all the time. This movie is more about Harry's emotional journey, on the fourth film we watch Harry fighting dragons, passing all those tests and trying to keep himself alive, and in this fifth film he has to face his internal problems and fears. Hermione's task is not to let him isolate himself and encourage him, showing him the value of friendship. In this movie I have a very good role and I really enjoyed it.

TU: What do you do when you are on the set and not filming?

Rupert: Well, I have a ping pong table, a pool table and a dart board, my dressing room is a good place, a little big, and since I left school, I have more free time.

TU: Which videogames are you playing?

Rupert Well, only fighting video games, but most of the time I'm playing ping pong.

TU: And you Emma, what do you do on the set, when you are not filming?

Emma: I've been studying for my exams and it has been a very hard work. At the end of the day at the set I go to classes and if I can't, I talk to my friends. Oh! I get along very well with all the makeup team (CIN), sometimes I visit them and they teach me some tricks. Their job is amazing.

TU: Are you worried about your characters death?

Rupert: I would not care if Ron dies in the last book, a death scene would be interesting.

TU: At least do you get the book before it's release?

Emma: No, I queued just like everybody else to buy my Harry Potter's book (Harry Potter and the Half Blood prince) at the airport during vacations, but I read it in only two days, I loved it, I was above to cry and I still keep thinking: No, Dumbledore will be back, he can't be gone just like that.

TU: Is Snape good or bad?

Emma: Since the beginning I felt that Snape was going to do something huge, I don't think that he is a bad person, and I think the reason of his return was because Dumbledore trusts people, he trust too much on them, and sometimes that is not good. Dumbledore is seen like someone who is too wise to have mistakes, he's like the character in "To Kill a mockinbird" who relies blindly on everyone... sorry for involving my English classes, but he trusts everyone too much.

TU: After Harry Potter, would you like to keep acting?

Rupert: Yes, definitely, I've had great times making this, and I would love to keep acting, trying different things and see what else could happen.

Emma: I would like to study at University, but definitely I'll continue playing roles at theatre, and I think that Harry Potter is an unusual film, we've been filming Harry Potter for so long, and I would love to try different projects. One of the advantages of playing a character at Harry Potter's saga is the amount of offers that are given to us, that make me feel very lucky, it's awesome!
