About school and learning (2007): "People can't understand why I don't want to be a full-time actress, but school life keeps me in touch with my friends. It keeps me in touch with reality. It makes me feel normal. Let's be honest: I have enough money never to have to work again, but I would never want that. Learning keeps me motivated."

Emma: “powerful” and “dressed beautifully” // 13 August 2007

Monday, August 13th, 2007

Another day, another ranking. TheSnitch told us that Emma is in the UK Film Council “Britain’s Most Powerful Film Stars in Hollywood” list. Here’s what the Council had to say about Emma:

“At 17, Emma Watson, who plays Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter films, is the most successful female star, ranked joint fourth alongside her co-stars.” (her co-stars being Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint & Ralph Fiennes)

Emma is also ranked joint fourth in the top 10 movie maker list.

Click here to read more about the other artists featured in that list.

Also, Emma is featured in The Red Carpet Style Awards: From Catwalk To Red Carpet for her OotP premieres dresses with this comment:

“No matter which event it is, Chanel have dressed Emma Watson beautifully.”

Thanks Serenab!

Have a great day,

New interview, new article // 7 August 2007

Monday, August 6th, 2007

Hello everybody,

First of all, we would like to share this nice little article about why Emma’s a girl to watch that Sally sent us, because it sums up everything that we love about Emma: click here to read it.

Also, we would like to thank Andrew for sending us a transcript of an interview that was featured in August 5th “Nick” magazine:

“It’s a big summer for Harry Potter fans. First, the movie Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix hits theaters on July 13. Then, eight days later, the final volume in the series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, files into books stores. We tracked down the three stars of Order of Phoenix to talk about the movies.

What was your favorite scene to shoot?
Emma Watson: The scene where Ron, Harry and Hermione discuss the fact that Harry has just kissed Cho Chang. It was funny and awkward and really good fun. I remember laughing so much that day. I hope that scene will provide some light relief and make everyone in the theater laugh.

Do you write any notes on your script as you read through it?
Emma Watson: Yeah, my scripts have loads of writing all over them. On a couple of occasions there was a gap and David Yates (the director), asked me: “What do you think Hermione would say here?”. And I got a chance to ad-lib. So I’ve got loads of different stuff written down on my script that I thought would be funny.

Do you learn the lines ahead of time?
Emma Watson: I’m quite bad, actually. I learn them as I’m walking down on the set or in hair and makeup that day. Generally, it’s fine because the scenes are short. If it’s a big scene, then I’ll look at it in advance and make sure I know it.

What actor or actress would you love to work with?
Emma Watson: Gosh, Johnny Depp. I think he’s such a good actor. He just becomes whoever he’s playing.”

We’ve also added 80 new quotes to the site. All the recent interviews with Emma gave us  a lot of new material.

New Role for Emma // 05 August 2007

Sunday, August 5th, 2007

According to an article in the Sunday Mirror, Emma has been cast in the upcoming BBC One adaptation of Ballet Shoes that will be broadcast later this year. She will play one of the three orphaned sisters in this classic childrens story. Thanks to Jane and Marty for the tip.

Harry Potter’s pal Hermione Granger is to star in a BBC adaptation of classic children’s tale Ballet Shoes.

Emma Watson, 17, will play an orphan in the feature-length film of Noel Streatfield’s 1936 book.

The 90-minute drama, also featuring comedian Victoria Wood and Hustle star Marc Warren, will be the teen actress’s first TV role. It will also see her reunited with Potter costar Richard Griffiths – Harry’s evil Uncle Vernon.

Filming on the lavish adaptation will start this month and it is expected to be the centrepiece of the Beeb’s Christmas line-up.

Ballet Shoes follows the tale of three orphaned sisters who are adopted by an eccentric explorer and raised by his niece.

A TV source said: “Emma was practically born for this role.”

This is wonderful news if true, but there is no official word yet. A press release from BBC One on 20 July says that open casting for the sisters would take place the following week. Shooting begins this month.

We will update you when more information is available.

RTL video translation & Emma in Teen Vogue // 5 August 2007

Sunday, August 5th, 2007

Hey everybody,

Remember when we posted this video from the German channel RTL? Well, Antares, a member of our boards, was kind enough to translate in English what is being said in this video:

Emma Watson, yesterday evening in Los Angeles. A young woman very accustomed to flurries of flashbulbs on the red carpet. Her fifth film is hitting cinemas this week.

Emma Watson, almost exactly seven years ago. A little girl at the first press conference of her life.

“This will probably bore you, but the money will be put in the bank until I’m 21.” The question was “What does a ten year girl old do with her salary?” Emma Watson is said to have cashed 450.000 € for the first Harry Potter film, and 2 millions for the second one. For that amount, all actors commit themselves exclusively and are not allowed to act in other films. Maybe that’s why the 17 year old actress identifies with her movie character a hundred percent.

“There was a hacker that claimed Hermione would die in the upcoming Harry Potter book. When I heard that, I was scared of how much it touched me. All I thought was ‘No! No! That must not happen. That’s terrible.’ If she dies, I will be really disappointed.”

[Emma actually says “There’s this hacker who was claiming that Hermione dies. So, as I’ve been told in an interview I was actually… I was surprised at how I much I felt about that. ‘No! No! That’s just not happening. No, no, no, that’s awkward. If she dies, I’ll be kind of gutted.”]

Today, Harry Potter author Joanne K. Rowling unexpectedly announced that the seventh book might not be the final one after all. However, Emma Watson doesn’t dare to talk to her about that.

“Every day, a hundred people ask her how the story continues. That must really go on her nerves, so I don’t dare to ask her.”

It remains unanswered whether Emma Watson, too, gets to kiss Daniel Radcliffe. Off set, the two multi millionaires are good friends. They’ve known each other for ages, after all
.”

Thanks Antares!

Update: we would also like to thank Megan for letting us know that she posted a scan of the new Teen Vogue “People Watching” page, which features Emma, on Magical-Menagerie.com: you can see it here.

Have a nice day,
