About auditioning (2007): "Mum and Dad kept trying to make me realise there was only a very small chance because thousands of other children had been seen. I was not at a performing-arts school - just a small school in Oxford. But I badly wanted it."

LA Times, InStyle and a video from Paris Fashion Week

Saturday, May 2nd, 2009

The Los Angeles Times has a short article online from a visit last year to the set of Half-Blood Prince. They spoke with Emma, Daniel and Rupert and feature a new picture of Harry and Dumbledore. I’ve included the bit about Emma.

Emma Watson, who fills out the trio of pals as Hermione, said that after so many years of battling magical beasties it was a treat for the students of Hogwarts to tussle with their own passions and enjoy some pratfalls.

“It’s so much fun, and I’m really enjoying it,” Watson said sitting in her pink-bedecked dressing room. “And it makes a change, because the last one was very heavy, and it is really nice to have that. . . . It’s a nice break for me. And for the fans, I think it’s going to be very, very funny.”

The May issue of InStyle has a small article on wearing bejeweled necklines instead of necklaces, and features a picture of Emma wearing a Temperley gown at the BAFTAs earlier this year. Thanks to Pamela for the scan.

And now, a new old video from last years Giambattista Valli show during Paris Fashion Week. Thanks to KS987 for the tip.

New Half-Blood Prince Posters and Interviews

Saturday, May 2nd, 2009

Four new character posters for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince came out yesterday. Paired up are Snape and Dumbledore, Harry and Draco, Ron and Fenrir, and Hermione and Slughorn. Click the thumbnail to view the Hermione poster. Thanks to Leaky and Cinematical.

Wizard Universe posted a new interview with Emma Watson a few days ago which I’ve added below. They also spoke with Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint.

What is Hermione’s big moment and big sequence in the sixth film?
WATSON: There’s this mean girl called Lavender who has a bit of a crush on Ron. It’s leaked in the beginning of the film that Hermione and Ron are finally going to get it together, and then she steps in. Hermione is sensitive and quite mean, really. And it’s very much about how she sort of despises Lavender. Not really because she’s taken Ron away, but because she’s kind of the opposite of Hermione. So it’s very comic and also quite sad for her. It’s very Ron based, her part.

Do you think the fans of the book will find “Half-Blood Prince” to be a faithful adaptation?
WATSON: I hope so. I think we’ve stuck as close as we possibly can without making a ten-hour movie. We’ve never had that complaint before, and I personally am such a big fan of the books. I’ve read them each of them three or four times so I think that’s a really good focus for us.

When you look back at the making of this film, what do you think you might remember from it?
WATSON: What really stuck out for me was Ron’s Quidditch scene. It was so funny. Rupert’s comic timing is just brilliant and he’s so funny. There’s this great scene where Hermione and Lavender are fighting over Ron, and we had a bit of fun with that. With Dumbledore’s death scene it was absolutely freezing that night and it was a very sad scene, really.

What are the pros and the cons of having the same directors a couple times in a row versus having different directors coming in each time?
WATSON: It was a lot of fun having new directors because there was more energy and you knew there would be something new every time. But David [Yates] is a very good director and I think he’s done a really good job with it. When you get to know someone you can trust them, and it gave him more a chance to try different things out.

At the very first press junket for the film, David Haymen and Chris Columbus [“Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone’s” producer and director, respectively] both said they looked high and low for kids they thought could handle both acting in the film and the fame that would come along with it. How confident were you that you could handle all that? And how different a ride has it been versus what was in your head almost ten years ago?
WATSON: The funny thing is I never realized that I was going to be famous. It never really occurred to me. I was just auditioning for parts and I just loved the character so much. I felt that I knew how to play her and I could be her, and Chris Columbus gave me a lot of confidence. And the fame thing never really hit home, it never did. When you’re doing a movie you’re kind of in a bubble and you don’t really realize the impact it’s having on the rest of the world. It comes in these surreal moments, like a premiere or a film coming out, and I realized that I am famous, but most of the time I forget.

If you continue acting after “Harry Potter” is done do you think you’re going to look for roles that are as far from Hermione as possible?
WATSON: I would like to play someone a bit different, yes. But I’m not going to go play a thug just to get away from Hermione. It will be really interesting if I find anything I feel as strongly about as I felt towards Hermione. I just felt like I had to play the role. It’s very hard to explain, I just felt I had to do it, and I haven’t read another script that I’ve felt that way about.

Emma in Top Girl Magazine

Friday, April 24th, 2009

Emma Watson is featured in the May issue of Top Girl, an Italian magazine. The article is for the upcoming Italian release of Tale of Despereaux. It’s in Italian, but most of the news and rumors are not new. There are some nice pictures however. Thanks to Emma Watson Italia for the news and scans.

Empire Magazine Photoshoot

Friday, April 24th, 2009

The June issue of Empire Magazine has an interview with Daniel Radcliffe and David Heyman talking about their years working on Harry Potter, and the current filming of Deathly Hallows. There’s not much about Emma in this, but the issue also includes a portfolio of actors from the past 20 years to celebrate Empire Magazine’s 20th anniversary. Emma, Rupert and Dan are featured in one of these shots. There is a quote from each about what it was like to be part of the Harry Potter experience. Emma says, “On the first Harry Potter film, when my beloved hamster Milly died, all of the Harry Potter set department made me a wooden and velvet-lined coffin with ‘Milly’ on the front. I don’t think a hamster has ever had such a spectacular send-off”.

I’ll try to get some scans of the article later, but for now, we do have a medium sized version of the photo that was used in the article.

Even More Pictures from Piccadilly, EWO and a Site Award

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

I’ve updated the gallery with more pictures from Piccadilly Circus where Emma, Rupert and Dan have been filming scenes from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. I have another batch of pictures that I’ll upload soon.

Jo has updated EWO about Emma’s interview in Interview. We already told you about this, but now you can let Jo and Emma know what you thought about the article and pictures.

Emma-Watson.net has been chosen Site of the Month at Edward Cullen Source. Thank you guys for the lovely award, and the wonderful comment with it. We appreciate it. 🙂

It’s hard to find an ever-lasting excellent source of an artist, but not impossible. We believe Emma-Watson.net is probably one of the few sites left who has managed to stay true to their actress, respecting her career as well as her personal life, which is admirable. It never lacks the latest information, media downloads, etc you need to know and even when some people compare Twilight and Harry Potter, we want to let you know we love Harry Potter as much and we are more than proud of their site and of Emma’s amazing talent and warm-hearted personality. Keep up being so wonderful, you deserve it.
