About being one of the most recognizable faces in the world (2011): "I was in a shantytown in Bangladesh and a boy stopped me in the street and said, "You're in Harry Potter." There's nowhere in the world that I can go, it feels, that isn't somehow touched by this. It reaches the furthest corners of the earth and in the least expected places. I was like, "Wow. It's really popular."

New People Tree Collection Launches

People Tree has launched their new Autumn/Winter collection endorsed by Emma Watson. New on their website is a message from Emma, along with an interview she gave to Safia Minney, founder of People Tree, and a new video. The video, which you can also view below, follows Emma on her trip to Bangladesh. She first visits the ‘apalling’ slums of Dhaka where the ‘fast fashion’ garment factory workers live. She then visits the Fair Trade producer group Swallows where the People Tree clothing is made. Finally we see Emma in a photoshoot modeling some of the items in the collection.

The interview and message includes new pictures of Emma on her trip, and modelling some of the clothing. We  have a few of those in HQ below. Emma talks about the collection, and contrasts the living conditions of the fast fashion factory workers with that of Fair Trade community. We’ve included  a few quotes below, but there is much more in the full interview.

‘Although I wasn’t centrally involved in the design of this collection, I had great fun in helping People Tree select some gorgeous Fair Trade textiles — a dogtooth hand-woven check, cable knits, and the first Fair Trade hand-woven brushed checked fabric which has been made into easy tulip skirts, dresses and shirts. There are even a few party dresses, such as the little black satin tulip dress which can be dressed up or down to suit any occasion’

‘Following my summer collection for People Tree I wanted to visit Bangladesh to see the difference Fair Trade makes. The contrast between the slums in Dhaka (the capital of Bangladesh) where the people who work in the garment factories live and Swallows (the Fair Trade community supported by People Tree) was all too apparent. I still find it hard to convey what Fair Trade means to those producing our fashion — it’s just so impressive to see how the women have used Fair Trade clothing to escape poverty and empower themselves and their children. I was moved and inspired.’

‘I want to congratulate People Tree on this new range and really hope people continue to buy these clothes and to support their great work in the promotion of Fair Trade.’

Preview of Emma Watson’s New Fair Trade Collection for People Tree

We have a first look at Emma’s Autumn/Winter 2010 collection for People Tree, thanks to an article in London Evening Standard. The rest of the line will be unveiled next week. The collection will be shown during Prince Charles’ Garden Party to Make a Difference starting September 9 and while Emma will be back at Brown by then, she has recorded a greeting for the event.

Harry Potter star Emma Watson will unveil her new collection of ecologically sound fashion at Prince Charles’s Garden Party To Make A Difference.

The 20-year-old actress is the latest big-name backer for the event and will show the clothes she has helped design for fair trade fashion company People Tree.

Her autumn-winter designs will be unveiled next week, with Watson giving the first exclusive preview here, right. But visitors to the Prince’s eco-fest will get the chance to see what will be in the shops next spring.

Watson said: “I’m so thrilled that People Tree will be showing the spring-summer collection at the garden party. I think the Prince of Wales’s initiative is such a brilliant idea and I’m thrilled.”

Watson became a creative adviser to London-based People Tree after admiring one of its T-shirts and being introduced to its founder, Safia Minney.

The actress has recorded a greeting for the event but she will not be able to attend in person as she will be continuing with her studies at university in America.

People Tree organised the fashion show after organisers of the garden party made contact.

Company spokesman Antony Waller said: “We suggested doing something with Emma’s collection because the garden party is an event for families and people of all ages.”

Update: Vogue.com has posted a second picture of Emma from her new collection, and says that the fashion show will be September 12 at 3:30 pm in the Friary Court of St. James Palace. Thanks KS987 for the tip.

This and That

Deathly Hallows Promos

Warner Bros has released HQ versions of the photos featured in the Entertainment Weekly Fall Movie Preview article on Harry Potter. Here are the pics with Hermione. Sadly they did not include an HQ version of the Emma photo.

Say You Don’t Want It

Emma tweeted and posted on her facebook to remind us that One Night Only’s single “Say You Don’t Want It” and the music video has been released and can be purchased from iTunes.

Pretty Pixies

Vogue.co.uk talks about Emma’s short pixie cut and a growing fashion trend in a new feature. If you’ve been inspired by Emma and are thinking about trying a new look yourself, they suggest visualizing how you will look first, and ask yourself ‘do I like myself and my ears without hair’.

Scans

Emma appears in the Russian Glamour and there is an article on HP in the September issue of Total Film. Thanks to Elmira for the scans.

Emma Make-Over

Fozia found this Emma Watson make-over and dress up game. You can change her makeup, her clothes, even colored contacts. I’m not sure about red eyes. 😛 Thanks Fozia.

Hermione a Top Geek

Moviefone put together a list of their Top 25 Geeks in Movies and Hermione, as played by Emma Watson, is #5 on the list. Geek Quote: “I hope you’re pleased with yourselves. We could all have been killed — or worse, expelled.” Thanks Andie.

Most Beautiful Role Model

The Australian Total Girl magazine chose Emma for “Most Beautiful Role Model” in their recent Most Beautiful awards. Thanks Alyssa

“You’d think after a string of massive blockbusters, Emma would want to stick with movies, but this smart cookie has decided to fill up her brains with knowledge by going to university. She hasn’t let fame get in the way of living a normal life, so it just goes to show you can do anything if you put your mind to it.”

New Images from First Trio Photoshoot

New images with Emma Watson, Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint in their first photoshoot for Harry Potter have been found by Oclumencia. A few pictures from this set were used to promote the casting of Harry Potter, but most of these have not been seen before. A great find!

New Emma Photo, DH Promos and Spoilers in Entertainment Weekly

The Fall Movie Preview issue of Entertainment Weekly has an article on Deathly Hallows, featuring new images from the film, interviews with the cast, spoilers, and a full page photo of Emma from the photoshoot she did recently. I’ve put scans of the article in our gallery.

Emma Watson Starts the Countdown to Deathly Hallows

Emma launched the official countdown to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 today. Only 100 days to go until November 19. We have a couple pictures from the event, from Emma’s facebook page, and OK magazine.

Emma has also tweeted about a chance to win 100 tickets to the DH premiere (only UK and Ireland residents) at the Harry Potter UK facebook. But everyone else should check it out too because there is a nice video from Emma, our first with her new hairdo, about the contest.

And a couple more pics.

Emma’s New Hair Style

I think most of you know already that Emma had her hair cut a few days ago. Now Emma has posted a new headshot on her facebook, saying “I’ve wanted to do this for years and years; it’s the most liberating thing ever.

Update: Entertainment Weekly gives us a sneak peek at another picture of Emma’s new ‘do’ that will appear in their upcoming Fall Movie Preview issue. Emma talks about finally having the chance to change her hair style after 10 years of Potter. “Oh my God, it was the most liberating thing! The stylist just grabbed the back of my hair and took a whole ponytail of hair out. It felt amazing. I love it. I missed all that experimentation that most teenagers go through, I’ve wanted to do this since I was about 16, so as soon as I had the chance I was like, ‘Right. This is it.'”

Update 2: Entertainment Weekly has posted another picture with a short article. Emma talks about how she felt getting her hair cut, and how she knew there would be a big reaction.

When filming ended, Watson’s hair was finally her own. She could have cut her hair immediately, but she decided to wait a bit. “It didn’t feel right then; I needed a break,” she tells EW.com exclusively. During the cut, designed by New York stylist Rodney Cutler of Cutler Salon, Watson never had a moment of panic or remorse. “It was weird. My hairdresser was like, ‘When are you going to freak out?’ Most people cry or go into shock,'” she says. “But I was very calm. I knew it was the right thing.” It helped, she said, that she didn’t tell anyone she was getting the drastic ‘do. “I went to the salon alone and I left alone,” she says. “I knew everyone was going to have an opinion, and I couldn’t deal with it. I have to get myself into a good place to deal with people saying things like, ‘It’s terrible! She looks like a boy!'” Says the actress, laughing, “My dad already said that to me, actually. He said, ‘You’re not Audrey Hepburn yet, darling.'”

Ouch. Thanks, Dad? “He’s like that. I think the best I’ve ever had out of him was before a premiere when he said I ‘scrub up alright.’ When people ask me how I keep myself grounded, there’s the answer.”

Emma Watson Passes 100,000 Followers on Twitter

Emma now has over 100,000 followers on her official twitter after opening just 3 weeks ago!

In recent tweets, and facebook posts, she has let us know that she is in New York doing some press for Deathly Hallows. According to Snitchseeker, WB says this is for magazine shoots and features, so we won’t see anything for a while.
