About being friends with Daniel and Rupert (2001): "I have made very good friends with them. But (leans as if telling a secret) I would like some female company occasionally."

FILMINK Magazine

FILMINK, an Australian magazine, has an article featuring Emma Watson, Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint in their July issue, in which the author recounts interviews he has done with the trio over the years, from Philosopher’s Stone up through Half-Blood Prince. Marina at FILMINK has sent along some preview images of the article. The magazine will be available at newsagents across Australia on the 17th, or you can purchase it directly by contacting Dina, their subscriptions manager (dina@filmink.com.au). Cost depends on destination.

Seventeen Magazine, Spanish Edition

The Spanish edition of Seventeen magazine also has a feature on Emma this month, with more new photos. Credit to HarryPotterLa to and Snitchseeker for the scans and translation. I’ve also updated the  previous post with a translation from Amanda of the Yo Dona article. (Just a reminder, don’t believe everything you read. The article says Emma is going to university in the US, but until you read it at EWO, it’s not true.)

With this Harry Potter phenomenon, do you feel like you’ve been able to have a normal teenager’s life?
Yes, I have because I’m still going to school, and that makes a difference. I haven’t been home-schooled or anything. If it wasn’t because of that I would’ve gone insane.

It must be complicated to be under the public eye like that. People know about everything you do, they take pictures of you with different guys and they say you’re dating them.
It’s like I’m not allowed to have male friends. To the press, I’m dating all of them. But the only way to live through it is to laugh about it.The people must think it’s very weird because one week I’m going out with Daniel, then it’s a new guy “what is wrong with her?”. It’s ridiculous. But if the worst thing they can write about me is that I go out a lot with different guys, then I’m not concerned.

How important is acting in your life? Is it a real passion, or is there something else?
I had been doubting if I wanted to act for the rest of my life. The reason is because I was only nine when I started. They went to my school, and they picked me. I auditioned and I got the role. I never went to acting school, I didn’t know I wanted to be an actress. It’s amazing, but just because it happened it doesn’t mean that it’s the right fit for me. It took me awhile to decide what to do. And now I think it is. I come from a family of lawyers and academics, we didn’t watch movies in my house. I didn’t know who Gary Oldman or Maggie Smith were. So I educated myself watching thousands of movies. Now I’m passionate about it.

What would you if you were not an actress?
I wouldn’t go to law school, that’s too serious. I would’ve loved to be a crazy and eccentric painter in Paris. I paint in real life, I love it.

What’s the weirdest rumor you’ve heard about yourself?
All this Chanel rumors. It depresses me because I wish it was true.

The rumor that you’re becoming the new face of Coco Mademoiselle?
Yea, I would love to be. But it’s not true. Everybody keeps congratulating me. I’m not going to take away Keira’s contract.

Have you been excited about meeting a celebrity?
Yes, and it’s funny when it happens. I felt so weird meeting Matt Damon. I work with amazing people and when I met him I was speechless. I went bright red and embarrassed. It’s weird when you go to so many events, all of the sudden they take pictures of you with people you don’t know. That time was embarrassing because he knew who I was.

What do you think of Robert Pattinson?
I’m amazed! He’s supposed to be the new Harry Potter now. I called him and told him “You’re taking all the credit!!”. I’m kidding. I’m very happy for him, but we haven’t spoken.

Do you get together with your Harry Potter cast mates?
I think it’s healthy to have friends outside the industry because I can feel very claustrophobic at times. That’s why I want to go to school again so bad, I want to have lots of friends in college.

Are you going to Cambridge this year?
I had a sabbatical year. I’ve decided that I’ll go to America next fall, I’ll enroll in an East Coast school, just not in New York, because it would be very distracting for me.

You have an amazing career, it’s brave of you to take time off. Is your education more important than acting right now for you?
I think I would go mad if I didn’t go back to school. It keeps me grounded, being with my friends allows me to have a normal life. I don’t think you can be a good actress if you go insane.

Are you a movie star in your house, or do they ask you take the trash out?
To me it’s “Emma, take the trash out”.

Why have you chosen not to move out of your house yet?
Because I love my family. And I don’t have to do my own laundry (laughs).

You don’t feel like moving out?
I might move into an apartment with a friend. We’re thinking about it.

Are you recognized on the streets?
Yes, I still take the train and people recognize me. It’s funny because people whisper to each other “isn’t that the girl from Harry Potter?” and then they say “No, she can’t be on the train!”. I just laugh.

Do people ask you?
All the time. “Are you the girl from Harry Potter?” and I’m like “yeah…”. I don’t deny it because one time in New York I made a huge mistake. I was skating with my family and a woman came up to me and I told her “Yeah, people say I look like her a lot” and five minutes later she came back and said “How do you dare lie to me?”. I felt so bad.

Do you feel the pressure to look glam and very sexy?
Yes, it’s intense. I’m not gonna lie.

Do you have a persona stylist?
No, I don’t have anyone. I dress myself. For me. It’s something that I really enjoy. It’s a genuine thing. I really love fashion, I think it’s a way to express yourself and it’s really fun. I think it’s a subject that it shouldn’t be taken to an extreme of saying “Clothes, they’re stressful!”.

Which are your favorite designers?
If I have to go to a premiere I look for trendsetting designers like Balenciaga and Chanel. I love everything by William Tempest, a British designer. If I’m casual I shop at TopShop, Zara, Gap, Agnes B, Mix and Match.

What do you invest your money on?
My brother would love it if I got a Lamborghini, but I won’t and he’s sad about it. I don’t feel like investing right now. I just want to do what my friends do and a lot of people who I know don’t have that amount of money to spend. I want to do what they do. Go to the movies, eat some place. I live a very normal life. I just got a laptop and it’s the most expensive thing I ever bought. Oh, and I got a car, a Toyota Prius.

If you go out on a date, do you pay or he pays?
I think women don’t know what they want right now. I don’t know if I want a guy who pays for everything because it’s nice of him to do it, or if I have to pay to show him I’m independent.

When HP began who helped you manage your money?
Luckily my parents are lawyers, which was great. They handled all the legal stuff. WB was a great support because they knew it was goin to be a big thing so they worried about all the young actors in the movies, I think I would’ve felt very lonely if I had been the only kid in that project, but luckily, there were a lot of new kids too, so we could share all that exciting non-experience in the film industry.

Did your parents send you to some place so that you would learn how to manage your money?
I chose to do it. It was a four day course. It was good that not all my money got transferred to my account when I hit 18. I wouldn’t have known what to do with it. I don’t need money anyway, I love with my parents, I have dinner everyday with my family.

The last HP movie will be cut in two installments. Are you shooting it all at once.
Yes, all at once.

What’s been your favorite scene in the entire series and which did you hate?
I love the Great Hall scenes. But they were very hard. Some people don’t know that we shoot every scene in two or three days, and the food starts smelling funny. There’s lot of lights and it very hot, it starts smelling funny. That’s the worst. The best is when we have to do dangerous scenes and stunts.

Have you thought about what you will do after HP?
Yes, I want to keep acting but I also have the firm idea of going to college. That will keep me very busy.

Yo Dona and Seventeen Magazines

Emma Watson is simply lovely on the cover of Yo Dona magazine’s next issue. We have a preview image from their website. Thanks to Samantha for the tip. If anyone can send in some scans we would be most grateful.

Update: A big Thank You to Mai for sending in scans so quickly.

Seventeen magazine (not the US edition) also has an article on Emma in their July issue. I think this is from the South Africa edition. You can see a preview cover on their website.

We have some photos of the article from coolgal over at the Rupert and Emma Forum. If anyone can get some nice scans, please send them in.

Update: Amanda sent in a translation for the Yo Dona article. Thanks Amanda.

COVER: More over Harry Potter:I want to convince the world that I can be more than Hermione.

PAGE ONE:
(From child actor to diva, little is left of little Hermione, know-it-all friend of Harry Potter, who in the sixth installment of the saga shows a more sensual side of herself. Emma Watson named one of the sexiest woman in the world, probably feels more comfortable now then she did back then. However, this is not her only title; she is also a fashion icon)From a caterpillar to a butterfly, Emma Watson (Born in Paris, 15th of April 1990) is no longer a child, even though being younger she already knew how to manage herself in interviews. She is old enough to drive, go to a pub and even go to University (She has decided to take a break from the public eye and take a year off). The smartest student in Hogwarts school- she’s also smart in real life, graduating with top marks- she’s turned into one of the sexiest stars on the big screen. When Watson was chosen to play Hermione Granger at the tender age of nine, she didn’t suspect that she would turn into the female protagonist of one of the most successful film franchises of all time. A decade later, with Harry Potter and the Half-Blood prince about to premiere: the physical changes of the actress are more prominent than ever: her curls have died out, her hair has turned blonde and her image is more sophisticated. Also, the evolution of her character, who abandons the spoiled image to a more kind and sensual image. And as if by magic. Also, there are still those who confuse reality with fantasy, actress and character; something she repents. As the Harry Potter saga reaches its end (Only two films remain). It will be then, and only then when Emma Watson begins to soar and has the opportunity to demonstrate that’s there is life after Hermione.

YO DONA: Think for a moment that day in the Berkeley Hotel in London, when you, Rupert and Dan were playing Monopoly, just before the premiere of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone to the world wide press. Did you imagine than that those big changes were about to happen in your life?

Emma Watson: I think that I was too young to notice it, even though, obviously, I was scared to death! I didn’t think of the fact the JK Rowling was about to write seven novels. Nor did I suspect that the saga would become so popular. Nobody knew that the film would turn into one of the most successful movies of all time.

PAGE TWO:

YO DONA: Does feel different to work in the new film, after the three protagonists have done other projects?
Emma Watson:
Yes. It’s been great to be back and speak to Dan (Daniel Radcliffe) and Rupert (Grint) about their other projects and comment on the difference between theater and in television. It’s left us with much security, because we started younger with the Potter films. For me it was important to do Ballet Shoes; I learned a lot thanks to that experience.

YO DONA: has it bothered you that your character (Hermione) has a romantic history with Ron (Rupert Grint)? I say it, mostly because he’s an old friend…
Emma Watson:
No it was very hard. Rupert was very calm, and it doesn’t matter to me because I like Romantic Comedy. He and I added a bit of comedic relief to the movies once they became darker. It’s fun to see Rupert that way. Hermione and Ron are very different, but they have a special element. It will be a bit uncomfortable to do the kissing scenes; there’s no other word to describe it, but its part of the job.

YO DONA: With 19 years of age, what’s your goal?
Emma Watson: To convince the world I’m more than Hermione.

YO DONA: have you ever thought of rebelling?
Emma Watson:
I work way too much to have time to think of that. But I’m sure that when I’m 30 I’ll have a hormonal breakdown and do everything I’m missing out on now.

YO DONA: Is it difficult to find a girl of your age as down-to-earth as you. Like in the U.S. all the actors of your generation lose it.
Emma Watson:
I understand them. The interest just comes up all of a sudden and your life is superior to the capacity of anyone standing them. Even if you’re young, the pressure you feel all the calls for perfection….it hard to stand it all.

YO DONA: Would it be difficult to maintain a normal emotional relationship…
Emma Watson:
Relationships are complicated themselves, and without noticing the weight of the world watching over you. They’re watching if you go out with someone, if there’s a crisis, a break-up… But I don’t want to say that I have had them.

YO DONA: When you meet new people, do you trust the?
Emma Watson:
I trust my instinct. I’ve learned to be good when it comes to knowing why people have an interest in me.

YO DONA: How do your friends act around you, now that you’re rich and famous?
Emma Watson:
It’s only weird for them when we go out and the people recognize me on the street. On the other hand, they know how to be protective.

YO DONA: Do you always pay?
Emma Watson:
No! It would be uncomfortable for them.

YO DONA: You’re a fashion icon the British media. Could you describe your style?
Emma Watson:
I’m a true Londoner. The time is very grey in my city, and that favors an eclectic and crazy fashion time. I mix the style of the street with vintage and designer jewelry. I have fun. My mother is very elegant; I think I’ve learned a lot from her.

YO DONA: And from Kate Moss?
Emma Watson:
She also has style. You notice it in the cloths she wears. In the U.S you don’t go out if your stylist hasn’t told you what to wear. That’s why the way of dressing over there is a bit interesting.

YO DONA: Have you ever felt the need to be thin?
Emma Watson:
I’ve never felt the need to be thin; always being very thin isn’t pretty. I’m never on a diet. I love cooking and eat. I make excellent raspberry tarts and amaretti (almond pastries).

YO DONA: How does it feel to wear dresses that Chanel sends you or the places your profession let’s you travel to?
Emma Watson:
It’s incredible to get those gowns, because I’ve always loved designer clothing. It’s the best. If anyone dresses me for a premiere, it’ll be Chanel. Physically, I don’t have time to go shopping for those events, that’s why it’s good that they lend me these cloths. It’s also great to travel with all the people I’ve worked with. What other profession would have offered me all these opportunities?

YO DONA: Do you have a diary?
Emma Watson:
I save some things from my childhood, with little memos about thins I said or though. I also keep boxes of memorabilia, including a piece of the Giant chess set. I have a lot of little things they let us keep.

YO DONA: It’ll probably be good for doing an autobiography some day…
Emma Watson
: No, I don’t imagine doing one. It’s too strange and weird to look back and contemplate over that small girl. I criticize myself a lot, and it would be difficult to watch the first few films. I’m very proud of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, but I had to see it two or here times before I was calm enough to be able to concentrate on my interpretation.

YO DONA: How did it feel, in 2007, to receive the Best Female Interpretation award at the ITV national Films Awards?
Emma Watson: It was very nice. I didn’t expect to win it. It wasn’t only about Order of the Phoenix, it was for all the movies; I was flattered to with the fact that the public voted for me to get that award. It was one of my proudest moments.

YO DONA: Your cast mates say that they’ve banned you from the ping-pong table because you’re too good.
Emma Watson:
[Laughs] I hope they let me play again, because I love playing. When I was small I was a bit of a tomboy and did a lot of sports.

YO DONA: What other things do you have in your trailers in the studio?
Emma Watson:
Rupert has darts, billiards, ping-pong and video game consuls. Dan has books and music. During the summer I was so bored I painted a large mural in my trailer. Besides that, it is very feminine, it has candles, pillows, and all the things us girls like.

Emma Watson & Christopher Bailey – Burberry Ad Campaign

Burberry has released a behind the scenes video filmed during the Burberry ad campaign photoshoot. They talk with Christopher Bailey and Emma Watson. This is an awesome video, and I didn’t want to shrink it too much, so click on the thumb below to view it in a popup.

Some behind the scenes pictures from the photoshoot are now online from Vogue. They are just small shots, but still nice. Thanks to autumnweasely for the tip.

Update: I’ve uploaded the video in mp4 format to EWVA, our video gallery. There is also an mpg conversion, but I think I can make a better one.

Emma Watson, Rupert Grint and Daniel Radcliffe invite people to watch Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince in this short, small video. That’s it over there on the left. I told you it was small. 😛

Famous and Top Divky Magazines

Emma Watson is featured in the June issue of Famous, a free magazine available in Cineplex Entertainment theaters in Canada. There is an interview wth Emma, and new photo, in a special Famous Teens section. Thank you Tayna for the scans. The article is also available online and includes a small text-free copy of the new picture. (click the thumb at left)

Emma is also on the cover of the Czech Top divky (Top girls in English) in another new picture from that photoshoot with the striped dress. There is a page in the magazine about Emma, but it’s mostly old pictures and rumors about her personal life. Thanks to f.E.W. at http://www.emma-watson.cz/ for sending us the scans.

Emma Watson is the New Face of Burberry

EWO has announced that Emma is indeed the new face of Burberry. I guess this is no surprise after hearing about her autumn/winter campaign, but now it’s official. I think we’ll see much more from her in the future.

Emma suffers minor back injury

Emma was to be a guest at the Raisa Gorbachev Ball this past Saturday, but did not attend. The Evening Standard is reporting that “Last week Watson suffered a minor back injury and was advised not to go to the Raisa midsummer ball, hosted by Mikhail Gorbachev, where J K Rowling had been a guest.” Thankfully it does not seem too serious as nothing was said on EWO. Take care Emma, and hope you have a speedy recovery.

Emma Watson in Burberry Ad Campaign

Emma Watson will be featured in a new autumn/winter ad campaign for Burberry starting this August. The ads were shot on location by Mario Testino near Burberry’s new headquarters not far from Westminster Abbey, Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament.

“Having known and admired the lovely Emma Watson for quite some time, she was the obvious choice for this campaign,” said Burberry’s creative director, Christopher Bailey. “I wanted the images to represent the rich history and modernity of Burberry while reflecting a quiet beauty, timelessness and strength that is particularly significant today. Emma has a classic beauty, a great character and a modern edge. Her charm, intellect and brilliant sense of fun made the whole shoot feel like a picnic on the Thames.” He added: “I felt Emma would be strong enough to hold the campaign as the only girl, and I loved the idea of her being surrounded by these young, cool British guys.”

The ads will appear “in the August issues of magazines including Vanity Fair, Vogue, British Vogue and Tatler. It also will appear on the brand’s Web site early next month to coincide with the magazines’ releases. In August, an interactive digital campaign directed by Christopher Bailey that includes podcasts and behind-the-scenes footage will appear on the Burberry site.”
