Dakota Blue Richards mentions Emma // 27 November 2007

Here’s a little random update for you: Dakota Blue Richards, who plays Lyra in the Golden Compass, mentioned Emma in an interview for You magazine… and Misato from our boards was nice enough to send us a transcript 😆

Probably the only children in the UK who know from first-hand experience what Dakota is about to go through are the Harry Potter kids. Before she started filming, her producers arranged for her to visit the Hogwarts set and meet Daniel Radcliffe, who plays Harry, and the rest. ‘They were about the same age as me when they first started making the Harry Potter films’ she says. ‘And meeting them helped a lot. They gave me some good tips, especially Daniel. He said, “Know who your friends are – and listen to your mum.” And he said “Whenever you feel that maybe you are feeling a bit weird and different, ask somebody who will tell you the truth – keep people around you who you know will be honest.” I think that’s very good advice. Emma [Watson], who plays Hermione, was really nice as well – we had a bit of girl bonding!

EDIT:

And thanks very much to Solo from our Forums’ for letting us know that the BBC website has a article about “Ballet Shoes”.

They talk about casting, what a wonderful story it is, and they also have some wonderful things to say about Emma:

Heidi adds: “She is also incredibly hardworking. Our schedule was murderous, and she never once complained, even when she was white with exhaustion.” Insiders also noticed a refreshing lack of vanity

EWO Updated with Ballet Shoes Pics and Information // 27 November 2007

New video, new quotes // 25 November 2007

Hello EW.netters,

Today, thanks to Diandra, we have a new video for you: an OotP behind-the-scenes special from the Brazilian channel SBT. You’ll see Emma pushing Daniel on the set (at 03:43), making funny dance moves (at 04:35) and being interviewed (it starts at 06:52).

Download the video here: WMV or watch it our YouTube

(There are actually three parts to the special, but we’re only posting the second one, because that’s where Emma is interviewed)

Also, we’d like to thank Solo for finding a new article from the Toronto Sun which features a few nice Emma quotes:

“It’s funny because it happened to me when I was so young. You barely notice yourself growing up when it’s happening, but I guess that’s what has happened, really. It’s very peculiar looking back on them and seeing how much I’ve changed and how much I’ve grown and what I looked like before all this happened. But, in a way, that’s what people really identify with. It makes it a real journey — a very real journey — because we literally are growing up with the characters.”

“For such mainstream entertainment, it has such depth. It is very complex. That’s why I wouldn’t just call it a kids’ book. I would call it an adults’ book as well because it genuinely can be read by all ages.”

“Everything about the book, everything about J.K. Rowling’s world, is thought down to the very last detail. You can pull apart the spells and they’re Latin and they actually mean what they’re doing. And all the names are so interesting and they’re unique and different and everyone has their own history. How she’s come up with all of this is just amazing.”

“At the end of each book, it’s almost like an Aesop’s Fable. Every time, every year, there is a lesson that Harry learns, so that the reader in turn learns.” With no lectures. “Exactly! So it doesn’t feel tiresome.”

“I did a film for the BBC, called Ballet Shoes, in the summer. Having an experience outside of Harry Potter really helped me. I think it convinced me that this is where I am meant to be and this is what I’m meant to be doing: That I do want to be an actress.”

“But I think I needed to have an experience outside of Harry Potter because, in a way, I was really plucked out of obscurity and given this role. I mean, I really wanted it but it never felt like a decision that I made. It just happened to me. I felt that I won the lottery. So I’ve always kind of slightly questioned it.”
