October 2011 Calendar Vote

Voting for the October calendar competition is now open.

Remember, you only get to vote one time. Do not vote multiple times from different emails, and do not ask your friends to come and vote on your calendar. Let’s keep the competition fair.

Please make sure you write your choices in the order you like them. Your favorite should be first, then next favorite, etc.

  1. View the calendars here. Click on the thumbnails to see a larger preview image. Take your time, make sure you scroll all the way to the end and check out all the calendars.
  2. Choose your favorite 5 calendars, and write down their numbers in order, from best to 5th place. You don’t have to choose 5, you can vote for just one if you like, but you can vote for 5.
  3. Send your vote in an email to emmawatson.contest@gmail.com or in a PM to me on the forums to dookdookdook.

Voting is open through October 1, 00:00 GMT.

Emma Talks Style Secrets with Harper’s Bazaar

Emma talked with Derek Blasberg for Harper’s Bazaar about everything from her style secrets to her favorite luggage. The article features a photo by Harry Crowder from last December.

Fabulous at Every Age: Emma Watson, 20s

While her fellow starlets are canvassing the clubs, the Harry Potter phenom, Ivy League darling, and Lancôme spokesmodel is establishing her own brand of cool.

Residence: London
Favorite fashion designers: Valentino, Isabel Marant, Chanel, Céline, Chloé, Calvin Klein Collection, Zadig & Voltaire, Maje, Sandro, Burberry, Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci, Agnès B., Acne, J Brand, Charlotte Olympia, A.L.C., A.P.C., Alberta Ferretti, and People Tree.
Item of clothing you would never throw out: My old school satchel. It looks better the older it gets.
How would you define your personal style? Jean Cocteau said, “Style is a very simple way of saying complicated things.”
What’s your own fashion trademark? If I get it right, a kind of drama whilst looking understated. If I get it right!
Favorite accessory: Can I say lipstick? I don’t like to accessorize too much because I want people to see me first and my clothes second.
Favorite color: White or cream.
Favorite scent: Lancôme’s Trésor Midnight Rose. (I helped create it!)
Let’s talk about your beauty routine. What’s your face wash? Luzern Laboratories
Makeup? Stila cream blush, Lancôme’s Teint Miracle, and Tarte LipSurgence pencils. Lancôme’s Hypnôse mascara is killer!
Where do you get your hair done? I get my hair cut by Rodney Cutler at Cutler in New York City.
Favorite architect: Antoni Gaudí
Favorite destination: Kenya
Favorite discovery: The blueberry-ricotta pancakes at Little Dom’s in L.A.
Favorite hotel: The Berkeley in London. It’s full of memories, and it’s so homey. I stayed there when I did the Harry Potter junkets. The spa is great, and they have the best spaghetti bolognese.
Favorite luggage: I prefer trunks because you can open them and see everything, and they act as a kind of drawer when I don’t have enough time to unpack. They also make me feel like I am going on an adventure.
Most memorable party: My first ever Paris Fashion Week (which is where I met you, Derek!).
When you can’t think of something to give a friend, what do you give? You can’t beat a great-smelling candle.
Every lady has a vice. What’s yours? Sugar. In any of its various forms.
Necessary extravagance: I have the heating on when I really shouldn’t. (I’m always cold!)
Favorite movies: Giant, Amélie and Notting Hill, and each for completely different reasons.
Favorite artist: Tracey Emin
Favorite cocktail: Gin and tonic
Handwritten thank-you note or immediate e-mail? Handwritten note.
If you have personalized stationery, where do you get it from? If I have the time, I like to make people cards. But otherwise Bubble Letters NYC and Letters Lubell. You send them a picture of something that inspires you and they custom make stationery on 100-percent-recycled paper.
The true hallmark of modern elegance is: When I figure this out, I’ll let you know!

Clockwise from top left: The Berkeley, Lancôme Trésor Midnight Rose, Stila Convertible Color blush, Chanel, Watson with Blasberg.

October Calendar Competition, Five Years Later

We had our first calendar competition way back in 2006, starting with the month of October. Before that, the site’s monthly calendars had been made by Marta, one of our staff members. I don’t recall who first suggested having the fans compete, but it turned out to be a good idea. Now, five years later, we’ve had nearly 2600 entries.

When we started with fan voting two years ago, all entries for each month were added to the site of course, so people could see them to vote. This was also a way for everyone to show their work, not just the winners. I have felt that was unfair to the earlier competitors from the first three years, and so I have added the other entries in all the competitions going back to that first one. Some entries have been lost, especially from 2006, but most of them were found. You can see all the old competitions linked from here under Calendar Competitions, and you can see a gallery of all the past winners here.

Thank you to all the competitors for all the wonderful calendars you have sent in over the past 5 years. I hope you have enjoyed participating even if you never won.

Without further ado, the October calendar competition is now open.

  • The size of the calendar should be at least 1024×768. Higher resolutions are good. Widescreen is also allowed.
  • Calendars must be in a common graphics format such as jpg, tiff, gif or png.
  • It must have Emma-Watson.net and October and it should have the dates. It should be mostly original work, and images used should be respectful of Emma’s privacy.
  • The deadline to submit calendars is September 27.
  • No more than 3 entries per person please. All entries must be sent to emmawatson.graphics@gmail.com

Thanks to Matou for a translation of the article, much easier to read than googleese.

Emma Watson: Swinging Icon

Ever since she was Harry Potter’s friend, every girl has dreamt of being like her. Let’s admit that her ravishing smile and her freshness on the Lancome campaign are irresistible. Meet the new Lady Liberty/Beauty.

It’s 4 pm. Music has been on and really loud since 10 am, and 21 year old Emma Watson is jumping up and down along a song by the Talking Heads. This morning, it was on Rihanna and Fleetwood Mac. She took her iPad with her so we could put on her playlist. Not once she complains or sighs. None of the things usual teenagers do does she do it too, apart from sticking her nose on her iPad during meals. She knows how to work. It is said that she was diagnosed with hyeractivity when in elementary school. Even her look/eye is lively, sparkling: there’s so much smart in this young person. The shooting is over, everyone applaudes. I begin to wonder how I’m going to interview her with AC/DC full on, when she suggests finding a quiet place for us. Change of atmosphere. Here we are downstairs from the studio, silently eating strawberries. Nice. I look at her differently now. A few little spots on her forehead. The line of her eyebrows. The length of her lashes. Her perfect teeth. Here is Emma Watson, famous everywhere in the world since the age of 12. Cover of Teen Vogue at 15. Her handprints on Hollywood sidewalk at 18. Her best-dressed-of-2010 status (according to the British “Glamour”). Her status of most bankable actress of the decade. A tremedous fortune in the bank for a year now. Her own brand of clothes for teenagers, Love from Emma. So many fans that even Lancome, who recruited her to be the image of fragrance Tresor Midnight Rose, is surprised. In the last fortnight, the model has had 15 millions articles on the internet.
