About seeing herself on screen for the first time (2002): Absolutely like, the scariest moment of my whole entire life. I mean, it doesn't happen everyday that you see your face like 10 feet tall on a screen. It was unreal. I think it doesn't matter who you are or how many films you've been in or how good or bad you are, you're always really critical of yourself. Like me, for example, "Oh my God, my hair looks so bad", "I could have done that better" or whatever it is. Just, you know, really embarrassing."

Emma Covers British GQ

Emma Watson has the cover feature in the May issue of British GQ magazine. In the interview Emma talks about The Bling Ring and includes new photos, in character as Nikki, by Mark Seliger. “When I read the script and I realised that essentially it was a meditation on fame and what it’s become to our society, I had to do it,” says Watson of The Bling Ring. “The character is everything that I felt strongly against – she’s superficial, materialistic, vain, amoral. She’s all of these things and I realised that I hated her. How do you play someone you hate? But I found it really interesting and it gave me a whole new insight into what my job, or my role as an actress, could be.”

There was another reason Watson chose the risqué role: it wasn’t a period drama. “Really I was open-minded about doing anything, but the one thing I didn’t want to do was get myself into a corset because I was worried I’d never get out again,” she says. “I knew it would be a really comfortable thing to do, but I felt… I had to dive into something really different. This has been a really big departure for me; it’s a really big character. That’s so exciting for me because it meant I was really acting.”

I wonder why they photoshopped her birthmark out, I think it’s cute. I think Emma playing a character that she had absolutely nothing in common with was very beneficial for her acting career because it probably tested her in ways she hasn’t been before. I’m looking forward to when reviews start to come in!

Emma has a nice figure, no need to be half-naked. I like those pants though:)

I love how she remains in character throughout the shoot. It’s like she’s an entirely different person. I can’t wait to see her acting skills in this movie. It looks like she brought it hard. 🙂 I hope someone posts the full article soon. 🙂

I remember the interview she talks about, made by will self : we all hated it.

There are some articles with Emma that are either forgetable, or just not that good, it happens. Will Self went out of his way to make her look bad and to make the story more about him in the NYT piece.

      • Thessalie says:

Yes I see what you mean. It was not that the questions were bad, just a pointless text where he wanted to look down on her. It was not even relevant ! 150 lines on Emma Watson where we could learn about how much he didn’t like her, and quite nothing about what she really had to say.

When in the GQ interview she says that they talked a lot before he wrote that article, I feel sad for her because the article must have felt a bit like a treason.

Otherwise, I really like this interview : it’s clever, honnest and meaningful. It’s not only the same old questions we usually have. I also notice that Emma really said it all here : sometimes she protects herself and don’t give much informations in her interviews, but here she lets it go. In some way, I don’t want her to give too much because I want her to be protected, but as I’m a huge fan as everyone here, it felt good to learn so much about her.
I keep feeling she’s a true model of smartness, of wiseness. i would like to be someone like her – not for her fame, but for the human being she is.

    Excellent interview!

I wouldn’t worry too much about what Self said. He obviously has mommy issues and prob issues with women who have any power that is on an intellectual level. He only said what he said because he is talented at reading ppl and he knew what would get under Emma’s skin.

    • tabitoo says:

Though to be honest I liked the interview it seemed real. I think the remark about her awlays being a middle class girl is more like when we call an actress “Teh girl next door.” It just means that she’s relatable. Being relatable carries any actor a long way. Unlike say Megan Fox or Angelina Jolie where their physical presence makes it difficult for them to pull off roles as normal/real women because it’s difficult to relate. Whereas actress like Renee Zellweger and Sandra Bullock are more relateable.

Men, is she amazing or what?????? I love how she transforms an dhow sexy she looks for the movie… Cant wait to watch it!

  12. tabitoo says:

So who do you think were the two who broke Emma’s heart. I think Tom Ducker of course…first love and all that. He’s probably the one she slapped too. Then I guess maybe…Johnny Simmons, just because I think she fell hard for him and then going to France and doing the lock thing. I think she may have loved him.

  13. V says:

Really great interview. She’s humble and brilliant and I’m glad she had something to say about that Will Self guy and his ridiculous article. Talk about misleading. It’s like he’d made up his mind about her before even interviewing her and nothing she could say during their interview could change his mind about her. He’d made up his mind to make her look like an idiot.

  14. 130671 says:

Well if she had asked me about her look on the pics I’d have said “!Wtf?…”
But I guess since it’s just a role any indication of ‘hey Emma that is sooo not you’ is a good sign.

  15. SamiSoong says:

I really don’t like the way the pics look for some reason…I know she’s a model and all but…is she really THAT skinny in real life? Her hipbones are sticking right out! But it’s good to know that she’s ”acting” or posing as someone else, and that those outfits are not ”her.” But I did forget to say, in regards to the other film she did, “This is the End” I am rather dissappointed…I remember once, she had said that she only wanted to do roles that would impact her, or something like that. MEANINGFUL roles, like Nikki. But, I am glad she’s keeping herself out of trouble, and she’s working hard. Keep up the good work, Emma, we love you!

  16. Nicole says:

Wow! Emma looks so stunning in all these pictures, lovely 🙂 didn’t bother reading the article though, didn’t catch my interest. Might read it on the forum later, but it doesn’t look that eye catching tbh.
