About love (2011): "I'm a feminist, but I think that romance has been taken away a bit for my generation. I think what people connect with in novels is this idea of an overpowering, encompassing love—and it being more important and special than anything and everything else."

Emma at the Mulberry Pool Party BBQ

Tuesday, April 17th, 2012

Emma co-hosted the Mulberry BBQ Pool Party at the Coachella Music Festival this past weekend in Palm Springs. She wore a Mulberry playsuit from the upcoming autumn/winter collection, a vintage hat and old leather jacket. She revealed to Vogue UK that she’ll be filming The Bling Ring for a bit longer, “I’ve only got five weeks left in LA, shooting an indie with Sofia Coppola has just been such an amazing opportunity.

Emma celebrated her birthday attending a number of shows at the festival, tweeting that she didn’t consider herself 22 until Florence and the Machine played What the Water Gave Me. She also tweeted about her birthday feast, “Mac N’ Cheese, jelly beans and lemonade.” 😀

Emma is pictured here with actress Lily Collins and Emma Hill from Mulberry.

Emma Updates on Bling Ring

Wednesday, April 4th, 2012

In a new message on her facebook, Emma Watson says that “Filming ‘Bling Ring’ is going great. It’s so amazing to get to play a real character. And I get to be funny! Awesome!”

There have been a number of photos from the Bling Ring set, but most of these are just Emma covered up in a robe. Here is one from March 27 of Emma in costume.

What’s Up with Perks?

We haven’t seen anything new from Perks of Being a Wallflower for some time now. A bunch of stills came out and then nothing since January. Some websites have listed a release date of September 21 but I haven’t seen anything official. So, just a rumor. Isn’t it time for a trailer? Thanks to Ermioni for the tip.

Be Magazine

The French magazine Be had an interview with Emma. Some of the highlights of the article are

  • Emma says that though she’s flattered to be considered a style icon, she’s more interested in style than in fashion: according to her, even though fashion defines its era, style is more about personality and she feels that personality should prevail.
  • She mentions that her style icons are Jane Birkin and her daughters (Charlotte Gainsbourg and Lou Doillon), as well as Françoise Hardy, a French singer or Stella Tenant.
  • She also talks about her need to get involved 100% in everything she does – she says it stems from the fact that she doesn’t consider what she does as “work”. To her, signing up to do a movie or to collaborate with a brand has to do with personal, artistic choices and she would have played in Harry Potter or been the face of Trésor Midnight Rose even without getting paid, because to her it’s about passion.
  • Lastly, Emma admits that she felt very intimidated when she was the center of attention at the Trésor Midnight Rose launch event, and that sometimes she feels that she’s shy, sensitive and prone to self-criticism, which can be a receipe for disaster.

More Photos from Crowder Shoot

Two more photos from Emma’s photoshoot with Harry Crowder in 2010 have come out recently.

Scans

Vogue India had a short article with quotes from Emma, talking about macaroons to owning a Kindle. Sorry for the B&W, but the pictures aren’t new.

Emma’s Character in The Bling Ring

IndieWire has posted an article discussing characters in The Bling Ring and which person they suspect Emma is playing.

…Also worth noting is that while Watson has widely been reported to be the lead, that’s not quite accurate. The entry-point character for the audience is Marc (Broussard), a fashion-obsessed (and seemingly gay, although it’s never stated outright) 16-year-old kid who starts at a new high school (based on Burglar Bunch member Nick Prugo), and quickly falls in with a Korean-American girl named Rebecca. It’s Rebecca (a character based on the real life figure Rachel Lee, and will presumably be played by newcomer Katie Chang) who’s the ringleader of the group, and arguably the female lead, while we suspect that Watson’s playing Nicki, a pretty teen with an ex-Playboy model mother (to be played by Mann) who schools her two daughters on the importance of finding fame.

“Wanna be thug” Chloe (possibly Farmiga’s part) and Nicki’s boyfriend, the Mexican bouncer Rob (presumably Miranda’s role), fall in with the gang, and soon they’re scouring gossip sites for the whereabouts of their favorite celebs, breaking and entering when they’re away and taking clothes, cash, naked photos and even a gun (from Brian Austin Green, of all people), using their spoils to finance a hard-partying, coke-snorting lifestyle, with little regard for the possibility of getting caught.

Ultimately, Coppola, even more so than most filmmakers, uses her script as a skeleton, and much of what makes her films work (or otherwise) comes in the execution. With a cast so green, the movie will really hang on how well they can pull it off, but if nothing else, having Hermione Granger do a scantily-clad dance with a gun will get the attention of the mainstream media (the film is another smart choice for Watson, who looks like she could be a real force post-Potter).

Birthday Project

Monday, March 19th, 2012

April is almost here and once again our thoughts turn to Emma Watson’s upcoming birthday. Every year Emma-Watson.net creates a birthday project as a way for fans to share their feelings and show their support for Emma. This will be our seventh year in a row. A simple birthday card has been the best way that lets the most people participate, so that is what we are doing again this year. You can send in birthday messages, art work, poems, stories, photos or anything else you can think of to say Happy Birthday. We’ll try to include everything. The card will be posted online on Emma’s birthday, and a printed copy sent to her.
