Emma Watson’s new eco-friendly “Pure Threads” collection, in collaboration with designer Alberta Ferretti, launches March 21 and will be sold exclusively online at AlbertaFerretti.com. The capsule collection, made in Italy using organic fabrics and environmentally friendly technigues, consists of two dresses, a long skirt, a shirt and denim shorts. Prices will range from 250 to 850 euros with part of the proceeds donated to People Tree.

In an article in Women’s Wear Daily, Emma says, “I’m pleased that a luxury brand such as Alberta Ferretti has decided to create ecological clothes. I believe this is a big step forward for all of the international fashion industry, but also an important step for an increased sensitivity to the problem of ecology.”

“I’m grateful Emma accepted this creative partnership that can contribute to fashion and to the health of the planet,” said Ferretti. “She’s an actress I’ve followed since her early days. I like her freshness, her spontaneity and simplicity. She is intelligent, with a strong personality, a young, modern girl of today but aware of social issues at the same time and very rigorous. This is a moment that demands strong attention to these issues and we can help in communicating them.”

People Tree has posted an interview of Emma’s visit to Swallows, the Fair Trade community in Bangladesh, in their online magazine. Emma went to see how People Tree clothes were made, getting a little hands on experience, and discovered how Fair Trade fashion can make a difference in people’s lives. People Tree released new images and a video today from their Spring/Summer 2011 collaboration with Emma Watson. This is Emma’s third and final collection and will officially launch on February 28 to celebrate Fairtrade Fortnight. A special mail order catalogue will feature these photos of Emma modeling the clothes. The collection includes clothing for guys and girls and is available for purchase online here.

“I designed the collection last year after I’d started university in the US. Safia, People Tree’s founder, and Misato, People Tree’s designer, came out to work with me in Rhode Island. Together we decided on all the colours, fabrics, shapes and craft skills. Most of all, we took care to design a really wearable collection that truly celebrates the traditional skills of People Tree’s Fair Trade groups around the world.” – Emma Watson.

In a tweet yesterday, Emma mentioned attending the Downing Street reception for British fashion. The party, hosted by Samantha Cameron at 10 Downing Street, didn’t attract much press apparently. Finally a picture of Emma has come out on Vogue.com. Here is Emma with Vogue editor Meredith Melling Burke.
