About the inspiration behind her People Tree collection (2010): "I went through my wardrobe and thought that if I filtered out my clothes and took it down to the absolute basics, what would I want in my wardrobe? It was cotton vests, really easy t-shirt dresses, nice scarves and maybe an easy summer linen shirt. And with the boys it's just the basics such as a comfortable hoody. I've done a couple of art designs for t-shirts too including, β€˜I'm not toxic' for the boys and for the girls I've done, β€˜please don't panic I'm organic'. I was aware that I didn't want to preach, you don't want to be too serious or too heavy. I also came up with a daisy chain print which I'm proud of, it's fun and messy. I just wanted to make something wearable and cool and easy."

Emma on Choosing Perks of Being a Wallflower

In another interview from the Elle Style Awards, Emma talks about why she chose to sign on for the role of Sam in the movie Perks of Being a Wallflower. Emma has said she gets a lot of scripts to read, but it takes something special to capture her interest. Emma says “I really like, just loved and identified with the script, when I read it, and it just made me laugh, and Sam is the character I play. She’s a really special girl, and I’m really excited to be part of it … I’m really looking forward to doing a different character, it’s a movie which deals with difficult subject matter, and I’m just real excited that we got funding to make it, and I think it’s going to be great.”

    Fantastic!

  2. Tia says:

I wonder if she will speak in an american accent for this role?

  3. Britt says:

It would be a mistake to think Emma saying Perks made her laugh defines this story. It has funny moments, but it’s much more significant that Emma says Perks deals with difficult subjects. Charlie, the main character, is a very shy, sad person who has no real friends until he meets Patrick & Sam (Emma will play Sam). Charlie believes he can keep his friends only by being the person he thinks they want him to be. In the end, he discovers they just want him to be himself. Just my opinion, but I thought Perks was a sad story with a hopeful (but also devastating) ending.

Britt, I’ve been trying to work out the rest of what she said, so I could add the rest of the quote, but she’s talking fast and the interviewer talks over her at one point. I’m going to add what I’ve come up with.

Sam is really a good character. I love her after finishing the book.

  5. Alex says:

This will be the turning point of her life, trying out something new and fresh. I hope she really gives her all in this particular film! Sadly, the film’s not going to be out until next year… I’m really excited!! πŸ˜€

  6. sabastian says:

how on earth is she gonna play sam? sam has big green eyes and long brown hair! her look just doesnt fit the character they will have to do put a wig on her and contacts and I love emma but her acting style is not right for this role!
she was prob hired as soon as emma said she wanted to do it.
emma is so lucky. with those looks and that hp image she cant get what she wants when she wants it pretty much.

  7. Pauline says:

Is it me or she is fatter πŸ™ And I’m not so sure about this hairstyle!
But i’m really excited to see her in a different role than HG!

  8. Danielle says:

And whats wrong with her being fatter? She’s hardly the next Princess Fiona. It’s people with that attitude that cause so many young girls these days to have eating disorders etc. If I looked anything like Emma does not, I’d be pretty chuffed. Sorry if you didn’t mean it like that but comments like that annoy me. And as for her being cast as Sam, I’m not sure as its my favourite book and I really want the film to do it justice and I’m not sure Emma will suit the part but I’m not going to jump to conclusions until I’ve seen it and I am excited πŸ™‚

I can’t wait to see Emma in Perks. I’m glad that this movie will actually be made and fits well into Emma’s schedule, as when she tried to get involved in the Napoleon and Betsy film, they couldn’t figure out how to make it work and the project never took off. Only downside is we have to wait a year, but in the meantime with have Deathly Hallows Part 2 and My Week With Marilyn coming out this year, so there won’t be any shortage of Emma. πŸ™‚

  10. Tia says:

I don’t think she looks in any way, fatter. I think she definitely looks like she’s been at the gum though. Those gorgeous arms and legs of hers have definitely gotten more toned and fit! She looks healthy and gorgeous! And about her role as sam, I was very apprehensive at first, having just read the book for the first time over Christmas, but I think this could be a really great challenge for her. I wonder what she’ll do with her accent. It’s going to be amazing either way. I always love what she ends up doing. We’ve got to have faith in her! This is what she wants, and we, as fans, should support it fully!

    to sabastian:

What defins a character is her personality but not her looks. If the author thinks she can play Sam, why on earth others think she can’t? I don’t think anyone will know Sam better than the author himself LOL.

And I must remind you, Dan’s eyes are not green but he played Happy Potter.

    guys,please help me,do emma want to marry with a foreign stranger?3rd person?who?

  13. Oriana says:

I’m just so excited for Emma playing Sam.
I loved the book and Sam is a really special girl that honestly i would like to be friends with. I think the most special about Sam is her relationship with Charlie. A little like a big sister / friend / lover, wich is very interesting.
Emma will do it brilliant, i really think so, and i just read the book again after she said she was going to be Sam, and i just could imagine her playing the role: laughing really loud, smiling, smoking with Charlie, crying, etc. She just will be perfect.
    Can’t wait.

  14. Lux88 says:

    @sabastian
You can easily change emma into Sam. History showed us that brown hair suits Emma very well, so color her hair, make it longer with fake hair, and give her green contacts.
And her actingstyle?.. I guess we can only judge that after a few more roles..
