About the job offers she gets (2007): "Only things I don't want to do. Most of them are roles for the typical American high school student, which is, to be honest, my worst nightmare. I know I've been lucky so far, but I just need another bit of luck in order not to make mistakes in this particular moment of my life. Auditions are really hard, and being rejected is always a bad experience. But I'll keep trying."

MTV Movie Awards – Photos

Monday, June 6th, 2011

I’ve added pictures to the gallery from yesterday’s MTV Movie Awards. Emma Watson wore a white Marchesa dress for the red carpet and award ceremony where she presented a sneak peak at Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2. After the show she changed into another Marchesa outfit for the afterparty. Thanks to Rose and superiorpics for some of the photos.

Emma Watson at 2011 MTV Movie Awards

Sunday, June 5th, 2011

Emma Watson attended the 2011 MTV Movie Awards today. She was nominated for Best Female Performance, Best Kiss (with Dan) and Best Fight (with Dan and Rupert against the deatheaters) but sadly the only award to a Harry Potter star went to Tom Felton for Best Villain. Congratulations Tom!

I have a couple videos from the pre-show and the ceremony. In the first, Emma is welcomed to her first MTV Movie Awards by Jim Cantiello, and the second Emma introduces a new clip from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2. Sorry, the quality is not as good as I had hoped. I should have more videos up tomorrow along with pictures.

Emma in the Sunday Times

Sunday, June 5th, 2011

The Sunday Times digital edition has a new interview with Emma Watson for June 5th. She talks about Lancôme, school and and the ups and downs of fame. You can read the article below, but first, a behind-the-scenes video from the Lancôme photoshoots with Mario Testino accompanies the article. In a voiceover Emma talks about being asked to be the ambassadress, the fragrance Tresor Midnight Rose, working with Testino again, and the ‘story’ the advertising campaign tells.

A charmed life

Emma Watson has dropped out of university to front an ad campaign and make a film. Meet a reluctant star finally embracing her fame

On a Tuesday night in the poshest part of Paris, Emma Watson is making her way through a party. I can’t actually see her, only the throng of photographers in her orbit. It’s a peculiar scene. The 400 other guests barely chat, too obsessed with getting a glimpse of Lancôme’s latest “ambassadress”, who was once the world’s most famous little girl. “Hermione!” cries an onlooker spontaneously, while I elbow my way past Alber Elbaz, the Lanvin designer, for a better look. Someone stomps on my foot. I turn around to berate them and discover it’s Mario Testino. It’s getting pretty intense, but then Watson has been famous for much of her 21 years. Perhaps she’s used to being celebrity carrion?

Suddenly, she’s coming towards me, tiny and superpretty in Azzaro. She could easily pass for 15, even in make-up. She shakes my hand and keeps hold of it sweetly, like an anchor. For someone who’s been doing this for years, the nerves still flicker about her face. Her palm is endearingly clammy. “You’re doing well,” I say. “Oh, gosh, I hope so. Look at all this.” She marvels at the stage, the cameras, the champagne-rinsed crowd, her name in enormous neon letters. She looks pleased — and ever so slightly scared.

It’s surprising, really. A year ago, Watson, a terribly nice girl from Oxford, didn’t appear to want this life any more. She finished school, as well as Hogwarts, and put fame on the back burner in favour of a “normal” university existence at Brown, an Ivy League college in Providence, Rhode Island. Now, she is taking a term off, back in glitz’s grasp, the face of a luxury brand and filming a movie. With a reported £20m in the bank, she could afford to retire. So why bother? “See you tomorrow,” she says, bestowing two shy kisses on me before she is instantly enveloped by the crowd.

More from the Perks Set

Thursday, June 2nd, 2011

New pictures from the set of “The Perks of Being a Wallflower” came out recently. Emma and co-stars Ezra Miller and Mae Whitman are seen leaving the set in costume after filming scenes where the characters participated in a showing of the Rocky Horror Picture Show.

In an interview with the Post Gazette, Stephen Chbosky, author of Perks, apologized to the city of Pittsburgh for disruptions the filming has caused, but says that when people see the tunnel scene in the film they think it was worth it.

The boyish-looking 41-year-old, clad this day in jeans and a short-sleeve navy polo shirt, was sipping a diet Coke as he offered an apology to anyone who had to cool his heels — and motor — last week so “Perks” could film on the Parkway West and inside the Fort Pitt Tunnel.

“I would like to formally ask the forgiveness of my beloved hometown and to thank them for being so patient. But I think that when everyone sees Emma Watson flying out of the tunnel — standing up on a pickup truck — I think they’ll agree that it was worth it.”

Mr. Chbosky calls that sequence “a particular dream come true for me, in a whole series of dreams come true, which is what this movie is. I’ve had those images of the kids flying through the tunnel in my head for about 18 years now, and to finally have actually filmed it on Wednesday feels pretty fantastic.”

The British actress known as Hermione in the “Harry Potter” series was safeguarded by a harness in scenes shot with a stunt driver at the wheel and police nearby. So, kids, don’t try this at home, even if you are feeling “infinite,” to quote lead character Charlie.

After sharing Ms. Watson’s declaration that it was “one of the greatest moments of her life,” the director says, “Those of us from Pittsburgh, we understand how beautiful it is, but to hear it from an outsider was very special.”

Chbosky also said the movie project would never have happened without Emma’s influence.

Although Ms. Watson, now 21, was dead set against more high school roles, her agent pressed the script on her, and the actress fell in love with it. “Once she and I met, we both knew in each other we had a kindred spirit,” Mr. Chbosky says.

In January, she made the rounds at LA studios to plead the case for “Perks.” Summit Entertainment, the studio behind “Twilight,” said yes. “We wouldn’t be making the movie without her passion for it,” the director-writer says.

As for the fans who turn up on the sidelines to see Ms. Watson, Mr. Chbosky reports, “The crowds have been very respectful of our process and her time. Those people who have come out to watch filming — and there have been quite a few of them — I think they just want to witness what’s happening. There’s never been a moment in the middle of a take where someone goes, ‘Emma!’ Doesn’t happen.”

More from Empire Photoshoot

Wednesday, June 1st, 2011

Sarah Dunn, the photographer for Empire Magazine’s Harry Potter Ultimate Celebration feature, released new photos from the shoot. They include a new portrait of Emma, the cover photo without text, and an on-the-set shot from Emma’s section of the supplement. And I thought that picture of Emma in front of a fireplace was real.   😛

I also have another photo by Sarah Dunn. It appears to be from a photoshoot for the 2008 Empire Awards.

Calendar Vote and Anniversary

Sunday, May 29th, 2011

Today is our 5 year anniversary. It’s been 5 years since the site reopened on May 29, 2006. A lot has changed over those years. Emma has changed. It used to be there was not much news about Emma except for Harry Potter news. Often there would be weeks go by with nothing new to post. Now Emma is busy in so many things. New movies, clothing lines, modeling, etc. There is so much interesting news it’s hard to keep up. Not all change is good though. The media now reprint any nonsense rumour that comes along. Paparazzi ambush her everywhere. And sadly, I think many ‘fans’ have lost the idea of what it means to be a fan. Sometimes I feel the days when news was slow were the best. People would actually talk about the latest news item. I remember great discussions. Now it seems more people are just waiting for the latest gossip or next set of paparazzi pics to come out.

I want to thank our staff, past and present, for all the work they have done for the site. I want to thank Jo and the people she worked with on the previous site for creating such a solid foundation to build on. Mostly though I want to thank all our loyal fans. Thank you for being part of the site by sending in news tips and graphics. Thank you for participating in projects and calendar contests and comments. And thank you to those who don’t say much but keep coming back. Thank you all. You are the reason the site is still here and with your support I hope it will be here for another 5 years. – dook

Update: As some people have pointed out in the comments, E-W.net has been here for over 7 years, not just 5. When we reopened the site 5 years ago, we kept the same philosophy, but it was mostly a new group of people and site, so I think of it as our anniversary. I also don’t know exactly when E-W.net first opened, only that it was in early March 2004.

And now, time to choose our calendar for June.

Remember, you only get to vote one time. Do not vote multiple times from different emails, and do not ask your friends to come and vote on your calendar. Let’s keep the competition fair.

Please make sure you write your choices in the order you like them. Your favorite should be first, then next favorite, etc.

  1. View the calendars here. Click on the thumbnails to see a larger preview image. Take your time, make sure you scroll all the way to the end and check out all the calendars.
  2. Choose your favorite 5 calendars, and write down their numbers in order, from best to 5th place. You don’t have to choose 5, you can vote for just one if you like, but you can vote for 5.
  3. Send your vote in an email to emmawatson.contest@gmail.com or in a PM to me on the forums to dookdookdook.

Voting is open through June 1, 00:00 GMT.

Good luck everyone!
